Tube data indicates that London’s return to the office has plateaued at three quarters of pre-covid levels

  1. But I guess all of the fare evaders are not able to be counted in the data ?

  2. If most people are still doing 1/2 days from home each week, this would make sense.

  3. Also, a lot of businesses got rid of office space during covid. If everyone that used to work 5 days in my office had to start working 5 days a week again, there would not be enough desks for us.

  4. Honestly, that’s quite a nice number. Pubs and bars feel busy again on weekdays which is a fun vibe. If I want a quiet commute day I just avoid the TWAT commuters.

  5. I wonder if people are working 3 days in office

  6. Those numbers are too high. We need to bring them way down.

  7. Strange, the tube (Piccadilly line) is mostly packed every time I use it.

  8. Makes sense – hardly anyone I know goes into an office on Monday or Friday. Our office is deserted, we only keep one floor open / lights on etc on those days.

Wednesday / Thursdays are a nightmare as it’s so busy and we’ve hired more people but not increased physical space. It’s annoying because obviously it’s counter productive to increase office space if it’s only really used 2-3 days a week, and then everyone will get pissed off if they increase the number of office days over 2 and actually use a bigger space.

I can see 3rd party managed shared office space becoming way more popular, not just WeWork style hot desks, but entire floors.

A correct headline would be “tube data indicates that number of people taking the tube to the office has plateaued at three quarters of pre-covid levels”

It ignores the effect of people moving / using the Elizabeth line, and people cycling to work, which has gone up a lot.

It’ll still be down, but not as much as that data suggests.

  10. I’m fully remote so won’t be contributing until the evening for socials 😅

  11. There’s also all the people like myself who got long covid and became too disabled to work.

  12. Not amazing news considering TFL need money more than ever to fund the Bakerloo line extension, crossrail 2 and future improvements and upgrades..
