Unexpected good news? does not compute.
Do all of Trump’s friends cave as easily as he does?
OH so it wasn’t “impossible” to get him out? Not the herculean task they made it out to be? Hmm funny how that works
Real question is where was he moved to… im hoping on his way back to Maryland as the Supreme Court demanded be facilitated but im not holding my breath
So, obviously if he was a terrorist like the admin claims, he wouldn’t have been moved out of there. Wonder what they’re gonna say about it now lmao, probably backtrack and lie about him ever being there call people crazy for thinking they did him wrong. But… no one has ever got out of there. Clearly since he did, they determined he didn’t belong there, esp after the backlash. So what now? It’s great that he’s out, but now he needs to be home. The Supreme Court unanimously said so. They claimed they couldn’t bc he was in there. But he’s not in there. So… what now?
Imagine what can be accomplished if you don’t surrender in advanced. Get Mr. Garcia booked on 60 minutes asap
One Democrat actually trying for a few days broke through the logjam. Trump is the weakest president ever.
Why is America sending anyone to a concentration camp?
This is a positive development.
What about the rest of them who didn’t receive due process?
I wonder if anyone knows where this “other prison” is. With Krasnov asking for 5 more CECOTs, it’s probably only a matter of time before he is moved to another one of them anyway.
Wow, if a mere senator of the out-of-power party could do all that within a couple days, surely POTUS isn’t too weak to compel the mighty nation of El Salvador to send these men back to America.
First of all, I just want to say that I really, really appreciate all of Van Hollen’s efforts here. I tend to be very cynical about politicians because I’m used to them just pretending to take action instead of actually doing it. Van Hollen actually took action that made a difference, and I’m impressed by that.
And he gave a lot of important info in this press conference. I was surprised to find out that Abrego Garcia was moved out of CECOT nine days ago, into a different prison with better conditions. That raises a lot of questions. Why was this information not communicated to anyone? What exactly is this prison? **And where are the other 200+ people sent to El Salvador by the US?** We don’t know if they’re at CECOT, another prison, or somewhere else. We don’t know how many of them are alive. I hope Van Hollen and other members of Congress keep digging into this.
Thank you Senator Van Hollen. This is what actual leadership looks like.
60 minutes should pay El Salvador to interview everyone. That would be a history making episode.
Remember folks, the American President is supposed to be the most powerful man in the world.
Our current President was told by El Salvador they couldn’t find this guy, and they certainly wouldn’t move him. And he was too weak to do anything about it.
A mere Senator got both done in days.
Under Trump the President has gone from most powerful man in the world to less powerful than 1 of the senators of Americas 18th largest state.
Weak.
It’s a start. But the ultimate goal isn’t to get a man out of prison. The goal is to remove a president from the office he doesn’t deserve to hold.
Respect to Van Hollen. This is what democratic leadership looks like.
He made Trump and that ‘coolest dictator’ idiot look like foolish show ponies.
This whole thing just makes it crystal clear how incompetent this administration is.
I mostly don’t agree with it but all they had to do was give everyone they sent to prison in El Salvador due process. Doing that would then:
1. Ensure nobody would be wrongly sent there.
2. Give themselves the legal cover to continue sending people there. This is the part I find gross, they want to keep doing this instead of simply deporting the individuals but I get it this is a messy topic and there can be people who belong in prison, again due process solves this…
So by ignoring court orders and not giving these people due process they screwed up and sent this man to a foreign prison instead of simply deporting him. Hell even the fact that he should have been deported is in question to me.
So we’ve now been told he’s a violent gang member, but he’s being transferred out of the prison designed to hold violent gang members? Right.
They’re so bad at being unnecessarily cruel that they can’t even admit when they made a mistake. It’s completely derails their whole plan to send more people to this prison. I’d say El Salvador isn’t going to risk taking in any more prisoners but the guy who runs that country doesn’t give me confidence that he isn’t a wannabe dictator.
So happy about this. Van Hollen is a hero. A truly principled man that chose to act, and not to accede, unlike those in the ranks of the democratic party leadership.
Every Democrat should take notice and realize that this kind of concerted effort at resistance is exactly how to get attention and popularity among the base right now.
Holy shit, Van Hollen might have just grabbed a spot as a new leader of the opposition. If a senator can get around the desires of the executive, then there still some hope for the Republic.
This is why Democrats all need to be stepping up. Nobody thought this trip would happen, or that it would amount to anything. We need more action from our leadership. I hope this inspires more members of congress to do more like this.
Amazing. Now get the rest out and give them due process.
If he’s running in 2028, he’s got my vote. Anyone willing to stand up for We The People at significant personal risk is worthy of the title of “President”.
Can we stop saying “Democrats aren’t doing anything” now?
I feel like most don’t realize that Van Hollen put his LIFE on the line for this. Bukele is a roaringly popular dictator. Salvadorans worship him. And he’s Trump’s best friend right now. Van Hollen surely had no allies in El Salvador. Likely not even in the American embassy.
I could easily see Bukele just arresting Van Hollen. And Trump laughing about it and refusing to do anything.
Any Dems not taking action against this administration need to be voted out. We can’t be the “sit around” or “take the high ground” party anymore.
“Grandstanding,” according to Trump. **This** is what we need in this country.
Ask yourself – with over 250 democrats in congress, how many of them can you name off the top of your head? Everyone knows AOC, Bernie, Schumer, etc., but the vast majority of them are completely nameless. Everyone knows Van Hollen’s name now, and he is getting shit done. We should be getting this from **every last democrat** in congress right now. Short of that, it’s complacency.
Van Hollen 2028. I like presidents who can get things done.
Trump is a weak bitch and this shows it.
Bravo Democrats. Keep this up. Give us reasons to support you.
Meanwhile Republicans this week openly admitted they are scared of trump.
It’s not enough, of course, but this is an extraordinary feat in an era where we’re so used to apathy and cowardice from our representatives. Van Hollen has established himself as the most effective and courageous Democratic leader in this political moment.
This is what it looks like when a senator fights for their constituents.
THATS MY SENATOR! I am so thankful for all that he’s done here. This is what standing against facism looks like
Apparently he’s just being transferred to another prison, but:
>Van Hollen said that El Salvador’s vice president confirmed there was no indication Abrego Garcia had committed any crime. The senator accused the Salvadoran government of accepting payments from the U.S. to detain Abrego Garcia.
So he committed no crime within the US. He committed to crime in El Salvador. He crossed the border illegally but was working within the legal framework to gain the right to live in the US.
So why is he still be imprisoned? If he committed no crime in either country, and he’s from El Salvador, then at the very least release him to his hometown in El Salvador.
EDIT: I just want to point out that **US taxpayer dollars are being used to imprison innocent people**. For American Trump supporters, even if that doesn’t morally upset you, then you should be angry that (1) the government is wasting your hard earned tax dollars imprisoning innocent people rather than actual criminals and gang members, and (2) the governing is wasting your tax dollars by keeping them imprisoned rather than just sending them home.
“the plane is already in the air”
“We can’t bring him back”
“He’s in Salvadorian custody”
“We would violate El Salvador’s sovereignty”
“He would have to be smuggled back in”
“The Supreme Court has no authority to order his return”
All it took was ONE MAN to move him out. MAGA is a bunch of LIARS, COWARDS, and impotent WEAKLINGS
Everyone remember that video of Murkowski talking about how scared she is? Well, Van Hollen FLEW TO EL SALVADOR to save a constituent.
We need to put this man on a pedestal as he deserves. Van Hallen is the example we all need to follow: do what is right not because it’s easy or safe but because it’s right.
