The company has installed 28 high-speed charging points across the country as part of a nearly three-year infrastructure project.

Latvian energy and convenience retailer Virši has successfully concluded a large-scale electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure project, marking a key milestone in the country’s transition to sustainable mobility.

Over the course of nearly three years, spanning from late 2021 to October 2024, the company has installed 28 fast-charging points across 20 fuel stations nationwide. Backed by co-financing from the European Union’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), the initiative positions the company as a regional leader in alternative fuel infrastructure.

“This project allowed us to attract over one million euros in EU co-financing to build a robust network of fast-charging stations,” said Anrijs Tukulis, Sustainability Project Manager at Virši. “We now offer reliable charging not only in Riga but also in key cities such as Liepāja, Rēzekne, Valka, and Grenctāle, all powered by 100% Latvian-produced renewable electricity.”

The company became the first in the EU to fully complete an AFIF-supported project, coordinated by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

Each of the new Virši charging points offers a capacity of 160 kW, enabling efficient fast charging for EV users. Several locations have also been upgraded with more powerful grid connections, paving the way for future enhancements, including charging solutions for heavy-duty vehicles.
