The Philippine Coast Guard continued its search and recovery operations on Black Saturday following the capsizing of MV Hong Hai 16 off the coast of Occidental Mindoro.
In a statement, the PCG reported that diving operations led to the recovery of personal belongings from the vessel’s bridge and second-floor cabin.
The search for the ship’s missing crew members is still ongoing.
Authorities also confirmed that there were no signs of an oil spill in the surrounding waters.
In coordination with representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in San Jose, the PCG conducted a joint environmental assessment.
The inspection covered a one-kilometer stretch of coastline extending up to 8 kilometers from the site of the incident.
No seagrass beds or coral reefs were found in the affected area.
“The PCG remains committed to ensuring the safety of the marine environment and the swift resolution of ongoing rescue and recovery efforts,” the agency said. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
