How common is it among poles to hate Ukrainians? Is it something I should be worried about?

  1. Pretty common among low iq individuals. Genuinely I haven’t met a single person that I would consider somewhat intelligent, who spewed antiukrainian rhetoric

  2. russian propaganda worked really hard for this and now we’re seeing the results on the screen

  3. There’s a polish saying “The smaller the dog, the louder the bark”

    I’ll just leave it here.

  4. Common among low lifes. They just talk loud on social medias where they feel safe.

    Don’t be bothered by it.

  5. If you read posts on FB, please don’t. In recent years I haven’t found more than just a few positive comments on any subject. Usually they are just trolls.

  6. Only anti Ukrainians are either people with intelligence of a 5th grader or Ruskies

  7. Russian propaganda + Russian troll accounts.
Most Polish people are NOT like this.

  8. There are bad apples everywhere. Ukrainian people wouldn’t stay here if Poland would be so unwelcoming. I can see a lot of Russians too and nobody bats an eye.

  9. Hard to say. I’m living in Poland, Poznan during 7 years. Never hear personally hate speech in irl from poles to ukrainians. But some percent of people in Poland hate us, because some of us doing some shit, like fighting, alcoholism, rude behavior, loud living among neighbors

  10. Hate is actually quite rare, only idiots laugh at the quoted jokes. There is tension, but if it ever erupts it takes the form of complaining and bitching, as it often is with Polish people. Once the complaining session is done, it’s business as usual.

  11. Hate is not common. Dislike is more and more common.

  12. Pracuję z wyborcą konfederosji to potrafi opowiedzieć rasistowski “żart” o Ukraińcach.

Wydaje mi się że 90% tego typu wpisów w necie to ruskie boty

  13. It’s common in a monoethnical society. Many people (especially those less intelligent) hate immigrants and refugees just for existing.

  14. Common. But it’s usually the people who also hate all other groups so I wouldn’t take it too personally. You don’t have to worry about any danger, the worst that may happen is some drunk racist telling you to go back to your country, but I think most of the time they keep these views to themselves

My point is that if you’re coming here as a tourist, you probably won’t notice any discrimination towards you. If you pan to live here long term, you might have some weird encounters every now and then but the vast majority of interactions you have will be good or neutral

  15. Right wingers do try to bring up history to rile up people against ukraine, but right wingers are a minority in poland even in political sense so I wouldn’t be worried, but yeah russia is probably spending millions of $ for propaganda here, division, prejudice and painful past is their primary ally against united and strong europe, one that can withstand military and economic pressure.

  16. Not common at all. Just ignore russian bots online and very small minority of konfa voters.

  17. Not common but sadly that aversion is raising. Ukrainian themselves do not helping either (some shocking crimes, demanding attitude, general tiredness of war and social costs for Ukrainians for Poles).

But you shouldn’t be worried. If you’re normal you would be treated normal here. Knowing polish languge also help.

  18. i wouldn’t judge by comments on FB groups. there’s a lot of negative comments on FB pages, it could be either bots , or such pages attract specific sort of people. Most Polish people who I know in reality, are not like this.

  19. Pure racism like this is most likely Russian trolls. That being said there are unresolved issues between our two nations and pretending they don’t exist isn’t helping.

  20. Not really. All these accounts are bots.

Some people dislike them, mostly those uneducated and poor – but they rarely resort to anything different than nasty remarks.

  21. This is another version of the same joke. One of the first was related to football hooligans.

  22. i mean there are some controversies due to some events related to ukrainians..but mainly we dont do THAT kind of things so its probably russian trolls or something because in the name of mieszko I we wont just intentionally run over ukranians ;-;

  23. I should think the same as Ukrainians hating on Poles. It’s not very common, but it’s there.

  24. idk im seeing a lot of talk about low inteligence being the reason behind disliking ukrainians but i can tell you there is a diferent common denominator beig working retail. the thing is you just dislike everyone especially the grupe of people who are bad at comunicating with you. overall im not hatefull and i understand the situation ukrainians are in but man i wish the russian asshat would stop playing war so you can go back home

  25. Not common, would not be surprised if it’s a part hybrid war.

  26. Mostly among the less educated people or ones who has awful personal expirience, like any kind of racism or prejudice in Poland. The only thing is – the Poles who live on the East are way more distrustful of the Russians, Ukrainians and Belarussians because our family history still remembers the wars and other influances, especially WW2, when those soldiers were way more sadistic then the Germans. I’m 24 and a very open, leftist person, but even someone as young as me who was raised by great-grandmothers and their offspring can naturally try to distance themselves – I never learned Russian in school because of it, choosing many other languages, including German. So that would be the only insight I could give besides stating, that in Polish society there’s a lot of spite and prejudice, but it lessens with higher education, younger people, bigger cities etc

  27. I would say that most of the Poles are proukrainian, but there are some antiukrainian individuals and a lot of bots online. Most antiukrainian people are those of far right, and those who belives in russian propaganda. But not only – my mother, she is a doctor, and she hates Ukrainians. Its due to our history – some of our relatives were killed in massacres of Poles and Jews in Eastern Galicia and later fought UPA in Bieszczady. She is not prorussian tho.

    Also I am proukrainian.

  28. I personally know a lot of ukrainians some are a piece of burning garbage but at the same time I know a lot that are just straight up amazing people. It is not about being ukrainian, it is about being a human.

  29. Just like every other country, Poland has better and worse representatives of the nation as a whole – if the accounts in your screenshots aren’t simply fake accounts meant to sow dissent and negativity, they still do not speak for all of Poland.

Likewise, the few negative encounters with Ukrainian „I deserve this thing/service for free because my country is suffering”-syndrome has not impacted my generally positive view of Ukrainians overall.

  30. Maybe not hate, but dislike and apathy is present I’d say

  31. Stupidity and small dicks come together.
I like Ukrainians. My daughter has many ukrainian friends, sings uktrainian songs and want to visit Ukraine when war ends.

  32. Very common unfortunately, have only met a few polish people that are neutral…….i was talking with a polish friend of mine telling her i was hanging out with this ukrainian guy and she was just like “argh ukranian” and im just there like dude tf you dont even know the guy!!.

  33. Very common among the individuals with IQ lower than the room temperature. The higher IQ, the lower is the hate. Basically this is how it works.

  34. Hate against Ukrainians in Poland is not common. Hate is a strong word. Though the suspiciousness is rising, as not an insignificant number of your compatriots are behaving questionably in our Homeland.

Overly aggresive kids, smug upstarts flaunting money, general abrasiveness… pervasiveness of russian (not ukrainian) language gets us feeling some type of way. Appreciate if you can work on it. Please and thank you. Nobody forces you to be here. Least you can do is make your presence amicable.

  35. From my experience, people in smaller towns/villages, where there aren’t many Ukrainian people (or none at all), generally don’t mind them and want to help. In bigger cities or just regions where there are a lot Ukrainians, is where the hate starts developing. Because the more people, the higher the chance of criminals/drunks etc. And some (emphasis on some, of course) Ukrainians are causing quite a commotion. So Poland is slightly less safe now than it was before the war. But once again, I think the situation would be the same if it was any other country coming here. The more people, the more bad people. And that’s what causes the hate.

  36. You should be worried, i am for sure. But that’s also pretty normal for Polish people to hate minorites. Right now its pretty common as people dont notice Ukrainians that blend into society but they do notice those who behave like morons. And if moron is Pole its just a moron, but if he is Ukrainian – well that’s for sure all ukrainians fault.

Also jobs, finding a job right now is pretty hard so lets blame that on ukrainians taking our jobs. But at the same time lets blame them for not working and living at the expense of Polish goverment.

    (And why arent they GRATEFUL?!?!!)

There is propably more, also you have to take into account that anti-ukrainian rhetorics is used also by pro-russia people and may include russians bots sharing propaganda and so.

  37. I fucking hate these cunts.

I always get the impression they got treated by the locals exactly the same way when they were working abroad in UK/Germany/wherever back in 00s and now are just itching to dish out some of that abuse on someone they perceive as weaker themselves.

  38. My girlfriend is from Ukraine, here are some things that happend to her:
-some guys threatened her after they heard she was speaking in her language.
-some teenagers started playing alarms on their phones, where she and her friends would hang out.
Overall, i cant say that every Polish person is antyukrainian. Because its just how it is in every society, there are good and bad people. I dont think that its very bad, but its surely not a very pleasant experience.

  39. Only among low life loosers and potential rusian agents.

You have nothing to worry about
