The other day there was wall to wall coverage of the ‘celebrations’ of a small number of transphobes popping expensive champagne bottles in support of the Supreme Courts ruling.
Today there have been tens of thousands of people in multiple cities across the country, including people from a wide range of different backgrounds, protesting this decision and… barely a peep from the national media and only a handful of stories in the local press.
This is how consent is manufactured.
Sadly, I’m too old and too cynical ever to believe peaceful protests will do anything. I’ve been to them, watched them, and ultimately seen every single one fail.
Good on them for not being me, though. I really hope I’m wrong and something good comes out of it.
The BBC last week did a news story about a 100 ish anti trans protestors (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8x8v7ewn84o).
Thousands of pro trans protestors take to the streets across the entire country and there is nothing. Nothing at all.
As a trans person it’s wonderful to see all these people standing up for people like me. But so frustrating that their protests are ignored but a tiny amount of cranks are platformed.
Does this ruling mean that trans women who were born men, can no longer compete in sports against biological women?
I’m not trolling, I’m curious
It’s not just London, although this will be the biggest one for obvious reasons. There have, and are planned to be protests all across the country over this ruling. Went to one of them today, it’s encouraging that trans people won’t go down without a fight.
Seems that a lot of people are upset with this ruling!
