‘It’s like I’ve won the lottery, my house would be of no value’ – residents’ relief as landmark Dublin 4 hotel won’t house asylum-seekers

  1. I fucking can’t stand the residents of D4, they’re constantly on with this shite. Classic case of “something should be done but not near me”.
Whinging about their house prices when they’re never planning to sell anyway.

  2. As always one rule for the rich another for the rest.
There should be war over this craic.

  3. Can’t blame her. It’s a shame people in rural Ireland and less affluent areas don’t have the same right to refuse as D4 has.

  4. I don’t understand this judgement, there are lots of these centres between Sandymount and Dun Laoghaire but somehow D4 is objecting and it’s being listened to?

Where I live there are 12 centres in my vicinity with planning going through exemption process for another 4-5, my housemates are fuming over it. It’s like downtown Nairobi just walking to the bus according to one of my housemates (who’s foreign and went through a very difficult process to get citizenship)

  5. Tbf, makes no sense to house asylum seekers in city centre accommodation.

  6. The ignorance and stupidity of these locals is astounding. It shows how inherited wealth fuels moronic beliefs.

    >> “Donnybrook has really died a death in my life living in D4. There is nothing left in it, and the hotel was the last thing to go. Kiely’s [pub] is closed, McCloskey’s [pub] is closed… all that’s left is a supermarket [Donnybrook Fair].”

Obviously these places closed down. There is no customers to facilitate. Existing residents won’t let new people into the area in the form of new building developments, and they are too cheap to spend locally.
Residents who have no intentions of selling their place complaining about the resale value decreasing. Amazing

  7. I don’t really know Dublin. Been there a handful of times so I searched Daft out of curiosity. D4 looks nice but mother of god: €600k is about the average price of a 1 bed apartment! Or if you have plenty of money you can get an F rated, 4 bed in need of refurb for €3m

  8. Absolutely hilarious people are clutching their pearls about the home owner but completely ignoring the other private owner that was about to enrich themselves with tax money by housing economic migrants.

  9. When is a racist not a racist?
When you live in D4, apparently.

Rally the chaps, have a whip round, and object legally.

  10. This article makes them sound like great people as always😂

  11. I’m sure they’ll find somewhere for them….most likely some unsuspecting rural town.

  12. I look forward to the rte coverage of this growing threat of the far right in D4

  13. Bunch of entitled cunts.

Is this the result of SF’s “no immigrant housing where the community doesn’t want them” ?

Seems to be working as expected.

Like most of these anti immigrant people they will probably lecture you on the Brits and the famine too without blinking.

  14. Imagine being relieved that people trying to escape war ect had nowhere to go because the value of your house would decline. Sometimes I’m glad I’m not rich, they sound like dicks.

  15. Typical. Bet they are shouting the loudest about the “far right” and “racism” of others. Bunch of fucking hypocrites.

  16. “Nobody has a veto as to who moves into their area”

The Gardai should have Baton charged those handing out those racist facist flyers.

    Double standards as usual
