Mythical beasts of Scandinavia.

  1. Love this!!! Beautiful! How did you create this? Did you create it on a tablet, on computer, with illustrator? Love the look

  2. Amazing work. Lately I’ve found Mara/the old hag to be especially fascinating as I’ve been fighting her several times when I’ve been having sleep paralysis.

  3. Where can I find more info on these? I have read a few books on Northern European mythology but other than minor Celtic beings, they were dominated by the doings of the gods.

  4. Feel like this video is very related, classic clip of what is supposed to be a “nisse” caught on camera in the middle of the night. The clip is from the late 80s or early 90s. I remember seing this when it surfaced again around 97/98…anyone else remember this? Seems hard to fake a thing like that on video in those days, I don’t know… The “nisse” is visible from 2:16.

Bonus: The old lady being interviewed is Margit Sandemo, a swedish author who wrote a series of 54(!) books in the 80s about the paranormal world in scandinavia, called ‘The legend of the ice people’. She was very much a believer in the paranormal.

The world truly is a mysical place!

  5. Super interesting. Are these tied to the mythology of the region? Are the ones in Finland part of the sueomonesko pagan faith? So many questions haha

  6. Great artwork!
Thanks to my Norwegian grandparents and their wealth of spoken folktales, I’ve been fascinated by these creatures since my earliest childhood memories. During one of our earlier visits to Norway, I was given a really cool book, that to this day remains one of the most comprehensive, descriptive guides to the various “hidden residents” of Norway I’ve ever read.
I have the 1970 printing, which is shockingly expensive now, but I found a later ’79 printing that’s much more affordable. (Both on Amazon).

  7. Finland and Iceland are not a part of Scandinavia.

Fennoscandia includes Finland but not Denmark and Iceland.

    These are the Nordic countries.

Only Norway, Denmark and Sweden are Scandinavia.
