  5. So, maga is sick of “babysitting” Europe, but they still want to “babysitt” Europe…They are acting like European countries can’t do anything themselves. Or, they are just afraid that European countries will stop investing in the US. They should have thought about that before they decided that shooting themselves in the foot was a splendidly good idea…

  6. One of the proposals in the memorandum is to expand the planned Rapid Deployment Force 🇪🇺 to 60,000 soldiers. It would become a “28th Army” and then become the seed of the European Armed Forces. The state armies would then play a less and less prominent role as they slowly downgrade to national guard type units over time.

  15. No EU army will ever happen to be honest. An army needs a single command, it it not going to happen in the EU.

    How would you maintain security when you have countries like Hungary, Turkey, Slovakia who are happy to be ‘friends’ with Russia; and of course there are several other EU countries where extreme right parties are coming up in the polls.

  30. YES, this should be a real entity. And when thinking about what countries should make up this defence system, keep in mind that certain countries are NOT of the mindset to be allowed to become members. Remember things like the agreement between Ukraine and Russia, where, in good faith, Ukraine gave up their Nuclear arsenal for assurances from Russia for no aggression. Remember when Erdogan REFUSED to let the US cross his country with troops and supplies, during the first Iraq war, Remember Victor Orban’s stance on Ukraine and other things he sides with Russia on. These people and countries will try and STOP any actions this defence system tries to initiate. In short, they are NOT your friends.

    I support the idea of a 28th Army, mind. But 1. The federalism framework they’re bound to use will deter too many to make it happen. 2. It will feature way too much juvenile wishful thinking, just like Volt loooooves to do. 

    I wish federalism was less about the dream and more about the reality. And frankly said, the EU is handling the ever closer union plan we’ll enough.
