Tessa Janecke scores in overtime as the United States defeats Canada 4-3 in the gold medal game at the IIHF Women’s World Championship in Czechia.

This is the United States’ first gold medal since winning the tournament in 2023 in Brampton, Ont. when Hilary Knight potted a hat trick in the third period to seal the victory.

Canada’s Sarah Fillier had tied the game with under six minutes remaining in the third period as she got the puck through traffic to make it 3-3 before heading off to overtime.

Early in the third period, Canada got into penalty trouble as the Americans got their first power play of the game with Sarah Nurse going to the box for elbowing on Taylor Heise.

Laura Stacey was then given a two-minute minor penalty for charging with Canada on the penalty kill as she collided with American goaltender Aerin Frankel with Frankel going well out of her net going to play the puck.

Frankel would exit the game after being shaken up with backup Gwyneth Philips coming in.

With Nurse and Stacey in the box, Heise would beat Desbiens with a shot on the 5-on-3 power play to give the Americans a 3-2 lead.
