Travelling to Dublin with a pet… Twitter is no help…

  1. So this is the third airline to tell me about this non existent embargo as they’re confusing us with the UK. DAFM has confirmed there’s no issues brings pets on a plane to Dublin. Has anybody successfully done this in recent times? Wondering if it’s just Twitter handlers that require a Geography lesson or an actual policy by airlines.

  2. Anecdotal but I flew from Paris to Dublin about 2 weeks ago and there was a woman on my flight with her dog! Don’t know what the exact parameters are but it seems they are allowing it.

  3. I moved over with a dog three years back, ended up going with the ferry through Cherbourg cause there was no possible way of doing it with an airline then unless you wanted your pet in the luggage with zero insurance.

Aer Lingus offered that, but I was just scared I’d get to pick up a box with a dead dog. They don’t do in cabin at all except for guide dogs.

I’d hope things would have changed since but wouldn’t hold my breath. One other option you could possibly look into is pet couriers.

  4. I got back to Dublin from Amsterdam two weeks ago. A young couple had their small dog inside small cabin pet carrier bag with us. KLM KL 0937 flight.

  5. Are there any pet passport requirements? Ireland is a rabies free island, which is why there’s value to certain restrictions on animal travel.

  6. Maybe you already saw this, but this is on their site

Was in a similar situation a few weeks back as we moved home from France to Ireland. The concensus seemed to be pets were okay on Air France flights, you just needed the required documents (pet passport etc). The link above goes through in more detail anyway. In the end we ended up taking a ferry due to the amount of stuff we had, so unfortunately can’t provide anymore than the above.

  7. Ugh I had this exact problem with KLM recently, tried to get a small cat from AMS to DUB. You have to make the pet reservation over the phone or through pm on their socials (fb or whatsapp). The only issue is the waiting line on the phone was longer than I could afford. I figured best way was whatsapp but they took 24hrs to first reply (after the bot), when I tried to make the reservation they said they had to “check internally” if it was possible. Over the next 3 days I kept asking for updates and they kept asking for patience.

Finally I decided to call the phoneline again and was apparently lucky that day/time. When I got to a person, she said the exact same thing to me, “there’s an embargo on pets sorry”. I told her there must be a mistake and she went to double check and only after half an hour she came back and said the reservation was made. Only afterwards did it occur to me that she may have made the assumption that Dublin was in the UK. It was so frustrating because the whole point of my trip was to transport my cat to Dublin!!

But here’s a tip, this is all the info you need on hand to make the reservation: Full name, Booking code, Ticket number, Email, Dimensions of carrier, Weight, Breed, Flight details (flight number and time etc), and then specify you want your pet in the ~~hold~~ cabin with you and apparently that Ireland is not part of the UK so there’s no embargo for Dublin.

  8. I’m planning to do this in the summer from Canada with my dog. He’s 12 lbs. i think air Lingus allows pets on board. Please let me know how it goes or if there’s anything extra I should know. Thanks

  9. We flew from Amsterdam (connected from Dubai) to Dublin on Air France with our dog in cabin on February 12. Let me know if you need any info. Book a slot for your pet ahead of time on the Air France website because there are limited slots.

Do you have an EU pet passport? We booked an appointment with the Dublin airport vet when we landed, and he was outside baggage claim waiting for us. But we were checking our pet into the EU.

Also, there’s no embargo on traveling to the UK with animals. We’re driving to Northern Ireland in a month and then ferrying to Scotland with our dog. You just can’t fly pet in cabin into the UK.

  10. When I was travelling back to Ireland from Norway last year, airport staff told me I had to have proof of a negative PCR test to fly to Dublin as the UK government had said so 🙁

  11. I just flew from belgium to dublin and there was an auld fella with a lil cat in a cage on his lap on the flight. Different countries and airlines. But id say you’d be fine

  12. is this a thing in general with the dutch? after brexit i had a guy at teufel tell me my order was cancelled because they werent shipping to the u.k i emailed him back and was very promptly called with an apology though…

more recently i drunkenly ordered some outragedly expensive magic the gathering cards and was told i might owe customs because im not in the eu..
