Why do people keep saying they called kyiv a Russian city? That not what it says. I understand they mistakenly took photos of Kyiv and said they are Moscow. But it keeps being explained differently and I wonder what the motivation for that is?

I’ve said this before, but the MAGA movement is at base a Christian Nationalist movement and Trump is merely the vehicle for their extremist take over of the US (and the West more generally).
The reason why the MAGAs are friendly to Russia and not China is because Putin has both centered the Russian Orthodox Church and Christian values in Russia, and wants to destablize the (secular) West. Russia is the Christian Nationalist’s spiritual ally against the secular West, which in its current stability prevents properly Christian states from coming into being. China to their mind is communist and thus ungodly. (Ever wonder why they paint the left in the US as communist? It’s code for ungodly/not-Christian.)
In sum, the Christian Nationalists want what Putin want: To destablize the West as its power is currently configured, because that power prevents, for the Christian Nationalists, the formation of Christian governments; while for Putin the current configuration in the West prevents Russia from gaining power, influence, and control outside of its borders.

Fox News pretends Russia is some beacon of Christianity but in reality it’s estimated that only about 12% of the population attends church at least once a month. Otherwise, I think it’s much more significant that Fox is going out of its way to reinforce the idea that Putin is a “good Christian.”
