  1. Seeing the lone comment about the show in here got me thinking, ‘Everyone can pour their funding into a new project than to keep the Wizarding World afloat.’ I’m with Nicola on this one.

  2. Is she mad about there being black people in it

Or JK Rowling being a transphobe

It’s hard to put your finger on what exactly it is turning people off of Harry Potter recently, but those seem to be the two main areas of discontent these days

  3. I don’t think this project is going to be the success they’re planning on. The brand has really tanked over the last year. I know the game did well, but those Fantastic Beast movies fizzled out, and JK got really shitty post Olympics. Yeah, she was being shitty before but that was another level of awful and she’s still going. I can speak for myself that the magic of the series is gone for me and I know that’s the case for a few lifelong fans as well.

  4. Read the article if you don’t understand why.

  5. Indeed. Fuck JK Rowling, and fuck Harry Potter. Full stop.

  6. I used to love HP so much that I got a tattoo. I now regret it because of JK. She ruined a great thing by being an evil heinous bitch. Fuck her. I won’t be watching it and I will be judging EVERYONE involved. Shame on them.

  7. I hate JKR just as much as the next person but the Wizarding World is still a big deal to a huge group of people and I don’t really see a future where people turn their backs on Harry Potter. I’d imagine JKR hasn’t even remotely felt a sting from the backlash or else she’d shut up.

  8. I’m not watching it lmao you can’t remake perfection

  9. If my favorite author turned out to be a bigot I’d drop them in a heartbeat. Dropped Sanderson years ago too but I hear he’s come a long way but the cynic in me thinks he just wants a Hollywood deal.

  10. I know they opened a Harry Potter store in Chicago that is doing well. There will always be people who will love the stories.

  11. Serious question do people dislike JK because she said trans women aren’t women? Or is there more to this?

  12. People try and too often succeed in separating the art from the artist.

I can’t do that. I don’t think it’s right to do so. The art reflects the artist and carries meaning from the artist to the viewer.

There’s several fantasy book authors whose works I really enjoyed until I found out that they are truly hideous people. (David and Leigh Eddings, Marion Zimmer Bradley). You can look them up if interested. I won’t repeat it here. I stopped buying their books, watching shows based on their works and discourage others from doing so.

Unfortunately Rowling now falls into that category for me. I don’t care what her (or anyones) personal views are until they’re aired in public forum and they work to actively harm people. Rowling has used emotional outrage, lacking reason or objectivity, to target a highly marginalized and at-risk group. At that point I have no interest in supporting them in any manner and will happily speak out against their view points and activities.

All it takes for evil to win is for good people to do nothing. I can’t do much. I’m not rich or famous with a bully pulpit to bring the challenge directly to these people. But I do talk with the people I know. I do try to communicate the realities as I understand them. And I certainly don’t contribute money to their products or causes.

  13. If you cancel every single piece of art bc of the creator or someone associated with the project, we wouldnt have any art left to enjoy, just saying.

  14. In someways this makes me sad as I loved the stories but find it hard to support anything to do with them

  15. They are remaking the OG stories way too soon. It would have been way better if they waited 50-100 years when immersive black mirror cinema technology becomes available.

  16. If the series itself alluded at all to marginalizing anyone, I might have the same trepidation as others. However, it absolutely doesn’t so….

  17. Hey, it’s HBO and they’ll touch anything as long as it’s controversial.
