  1. Given the oath that Congress takes, if you won’t fight for the Constitution you don’t deserve to be in Congress.

    Sen. Chris Van Hollen defended the Constitution and fired back at California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a fellow Democrat, who said that the wrongful deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident, to El Salvador was “the distraction of the day.”

    “I don’t think it’s ever wrong to fight for the constitutional rights of one person because if we give up on one person’s rights, we threaten everybody’s rights. I think a lot of voters, both Republican and Democrat, are tired of elected officials and politicians who just put their finger to the wind… Anyone who is not prepared to stand up and fight for the Constitution doesn’t deserve to lead,” Van Hollen said in a Sunday interview on CNN’s State of the Union.

  5. He is completely right. Newsom is an idiot who thinks shifting to the right on immigration is somehow going to win him votes in the Midwest and South. And he also doesn’t have morals, so he is perfectly OK selling out some brown people if he thinks it’ll suit his Presidential ambition.

    Any member of a minority group who votes and trusts Newsom is a fool. I don’t think he has shame when it comes to selling out unfavorable minority groups.

  6. Why wasn’t he screaming this at Biden when Biden refused to hold trump accountable for the coup attempt? Why wasn’t he screaming it at his colleagues when they provided cover for the republicans in congress during the J6 investigations? Democrats had a chance to defend the constitution, and they completwly blew it. So he may want to look in the mirror at this point.

  10. That’s why Lisa Murkowski’s statement about everyone being too afraid to oppose Trump, while maybe honest, is infuriating. There is no greater responsibility as a member Congress than to oppose unconstitutionality, and if you’re too afraid to lose power, you don’t deserve it.

  25. Precisely. Any representative or senator that is not out yelling about what is happening and fighting tooth and nail to stop it is complicit.

  27. Some of us consider the Constitution important, but not many eligible voters see it that way – especially the 40% who don’t vote at all. Ron Paul is the only person in modern history who I can remember running on a platform of supporting the Constitution, and we know how that turned out for him.

    So I guess we can vote for MAGA and burn it all down? Maybe we’ll get a new constitution, or the survivors might, anyway. Or maybe the successor to the US government will be just anarchy – a North-American equivalent of Somalia.

    Not saying anything he has done in regards to this crisis is wrong he is just stepping up in a time of need.

  31. MAGA and the Republican’s want to turn the US into a Monarchy, with Church and strict family structure being put at the forefront. The Christians get behind the church, the white nationalists get behind the family structure (as long as it means white families, and deportation for the rest). And last but not least, the rich donors – the billionaire class? They are looking to be the King’s aristocratic court.

    As Un-American as it gets, traitors all.
