I found this random vintage slide in a box lot from an estate sale in Pennsylvania, USA about 20 years ago.

  1. I was just there this afternoon, on an easter outing with extended family. Took a tourist boat ride and the guide told us that the square where the Zimmer Tower stands used to be an inner harbour for small river boats to load and unload. The tower itself used to be part of the medieval city wall, with a twin tower built on it’s left side across the street when looking at this picture. This second tower was called the Sint Jan’s Toren (Saint John’s Tower). It no longer exists today, but the bridge was renamed Sint Jan’s Brug (Saint John’s Bridge).

I have lived in Lier for several years. It’s a very cosy little city, lots of history to discover. Het Brugge vandenaldi!

  2. Thanks i live in Lier never seen older zimmertoren pictures.

  3. Born and raised in Lier. Always love to try to remember how it was when I grew up.. So many things changed except our zimmertoren and ‘begijhof’.
