  1. >But when I reached out to Schumer’s office late Monday, the senator hadn’t even posted a response to the news yet. Eventually his office put out a boilerplate statement, which they emailed to me: “The law is clear, due process was grossly violated, and the Supreme Court has clearly spoken that the Trump administration must facilitate and effectuate the return of Abrego Garcia. He should be returned to the U.S. immediately.” […]

    >Is Schumer’s banal press statement really the best that Democratic leadership can do? […]
    >We are witnessing in real time what the descent into fascism looks like. Trump is defying a 9–0 order by a right-wing Supreme Court.(…)We need a **Democratic Party that is led by leaders** who understand this.

Van Hollen says leaders who don’t fight for Constitution don’t deserve to lead (April 20, 2025)
    >Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) argued that elected officials and politicians on both sides of the aisle need to step up to fight for the Constitution, and if they don’t, they don’t deserve to lead.[…]
    >“I don’t think it’s ever wrong to fight for the constitutional rights of one person, because if we give up on one person’s rights, we threaten everybody’s rights,” he said.
    >“And I would say that anyone who’s not prepared to stand up and fight for the Constitution doesn’t deserve to lead.”

    Edit:
PS: According to another article, van Hollen was asked about Newsom’s characterization of
the Garcia case as a distraction.

  2. He’s calling Susan Collins to ask for help with a press release.

  3. Chuck is gonna find even MORE ways to surrender to Trump. That’ll show em the Dem fighting spirit!

  4. Chuck is bucking up his courage to do absolutely nothing. Time to retire Chuck.

  5. He’s going to appoint a blue ribbon committee to investigate this… Then hold hearing where they will release the results… to a bipartisan committee to review the legality of it… followed by a stern warning issued on a Sunday Morning News talk show.

I’m so ready for a Progressive govt.

  6. Now we wait. We wait for the perfect opportunity for Trump to really mess up and do something egregious.

And then we pounce with our fail proof plan.

  7. He will pull his glasses even farther down his nose…

  8. I think it’s time for Schumer to step down. They need strong leadership that can inspire the party! Someone who is not afraid of Trump and not afraid to make big moves. Schumer has been making bold statements lately, but I think it’s too little too late! And all they are statements.
Democrats could push constituents to do things that would really mess up the Trump government. Imagine if everyone in the country that did not support this government, just suddenly they took all of their money out of stock market! Or instead of just boycotting buying at certain stores for a period of time, we just stop buying from anything other than local stores and farmers markets all together! If we just totally stopped using Amazon, buying from Walmart, Target, etc, those places would be banging on Trump’s door, telling him to do something! We need to show him that the power of the people is strong stronger than the people and power, for real!

  9. Lead, follow, or **get out of the way**. If you’re going to do absolutely nothing at all, then fucking **resign** so that one of the countless (probably much younger) people who are willing to stand up and make some noise can actually use the power of your office.

Does your office have the power to single-handedly stop the Trump agenda? No. But your position as one of only 100 US senators affords you considerable power to rally public support, public protest, and media attention. Look at what AOC and Bernie are doing with rallies around the country. Look at the coordinated protests happening in every major city. You aren’t here. Look at Van Hollen traveling to El Salvador to advocate for his constituent. You aren’t there. If you can’t obstruct, then you must raise public support and raise holy hell in the media. You aren’t doing any of that.

Look at where your “leadership” has gotten us. **Resign, you useless fucking fossil.**

  10. Schumers response will be to form another committee and bombard us with more fundraiser texts. And probably lower his glasses another quarter of an inch

I believe in David Hogg’s philosophy, primary all the do nothing’s.

  11. Swift condemnation! Furrowed brows! Censure Al Green again!

  12. Now he goes to brunch, puts out feelers to all the Sunday TV shows, retires to his hometown Easter Egg hunt and ponders how much more money he can spend on Israel before he gets run out of office.

  13. Fuck all. Shitshow Schumer has been folding like a pre-creased wet wipe for years.

  14. this guy doesn’t give a shit about anything unless it’s about israel and then it’s all hands on deck.

  15. He’ll just move the goal posts again. Just like every other useless democrat in office.

  16. Schumer and the rest of the corporate Democrats have got to go. They got us where we are by backing Clinton over Sanders in 2016 and we are all gonna pay the price for decades to come

  17. I think a corpse would have been more resistant than Schumer. The fact that the Trump admin is wreaking havoc and he is touring to promote his fuckin book, should give everyone an idea about the leadership this fossile is showing

  18. Now it’s time for Chucky to stand up firm and stalwart, to raise his hand to the sky and wag his finger in a most unapproving fashion. Time for him to say, “No, no, no, I don’t like this all that much. Since I have to keep my Wall Street buddies rich, I won’t do anything. But know that I don’t approve of this very much.”

The words of a hero, truly the man our time of encroaching tyranny demands.

  19. Schumer prefers Trump over AOC. Many corporate dems think progressives are the real fascists.

  20. Schumer is an aipac lame horse paid to sleep, that’s what I think.

  21. Chuck Schumer’s only red line has to do with Israel.

He could care less about the US, his loyalties are elsewhere

  22. He doesn’t give a shit about America. He’s more concerned with cheering on Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. He’s owned.

  23. We need an actual leftist party. One of the workers for the workers. Right now we have two right wing parties, one far right and the other center right. Capitalism is a disease that will kill off the entire planet.

  24. He is going to strongly consider possibly writing an op ed for AARP magazine where he tangentially mentions that the Trump administration might be slightly out of line. But, of course, not if it’s going to slightly disturb senate decorum or potentially insult anyone.

  25. Now what? Now what? Well he will just give them one more red line. Just one more this time. And he’s gonna mean it.

  26. Now what happens is Schumer gets the hell out of politics so that we can start actually fighting back.

Democrats will fall into a republican dictatorship under his complete lack of leadership.

  27. Step aside and make Chris Van Hollen Minority Leader. At least he’s actually doing something.

  28. “I will issue a stern memo perhaps sterner than ever before.”

  29. Unfortunately only Republicans can stop him and they are sucking their thumbs and wetting themselves.

If they truly are disgusted then switch Party affiliation to Independent and caucus with the Dems like Bernie and Angus do.

They are essentially cowards not willing to uphold their sworn oath.

I’m not talking about the Republicans that claim to be scared yet actually support this takeover. Those are hopeless and are lower than whale dung.

  30. People like Chuck Schumer are the golden example of why it’s a desperately important issue that third parties are not viable politically in the US.

Unfortunately, the only solutions are sweeping reform to elections including the abolition of the electoral college and preferential voting (probably some form of ranked choice voting), but these are constitutional mechanisms that would probably only come to be after sever conflict and instability due to how entrenched the current system is.

  31. Does it impact Israeli dominance over the congress and the middle east? If not, no problemo

  32. >In March, after blowing up Democrats’ unified opposition to the GOP’s government funding bill, which handed President Trump and Elon Musk expanded powers over federal spending, Chuck Schumer appeared on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes to defend his vote. In the interview, the Senate minority leader said he didn’t yet think that our democracy was at risk but made clear what his red line would be: ”If Trump doesn’t obey the Supreme Court.” That, he stated, would be “different than anything else. It’s a quantum leap different, because our democracy is then—248 years of American democracy, the Magna Carta is out the window, and we will all have to take extraordinary action.”

He needs to quantum leap his ass out of minority leader.

  33. There will always be another red line.

His version of politics is outdated. He’ll always believe his opponents will respect the rule of law.

  34. What’s the point of having a leader in the Senate if he doesn’t lead?

“Well he’s the minority.” It’s BS. When Democrats were the overwhelming majority in 2009, the Republicans fought tooth and nail.

The response from Republican leadership was “If you act like you’re in the minority, you’re going to stay in the minority.” That was a quote by Kevin McCarthy before being pushed out.

Democrats have multiple levers still yet to pull both inside and outside the Senate.

  35. I’ve known more than a handful of lifelong democratic voters who voted Trump because they’re sick to death of “leaders” like Schumer. The dems are enabling accelerationism by their weak ass positions.
