  1. They keep taking on old people. Me Dad couldn’t even get a gig in B&Q

  2. Seemed a half decent sort. Bit complex and human like the rest of us. Hope the old fella passed peacefully.

  3. … watching BBC Breakfast.

Unfortunately they transitioned from a piece about the circus at Blackpool Tower back to the studio where the breaking news was about to be shared…

‘…and back to the clowns in the studio..’

    Ouch.

  4. Amazing, it was only 30 minutes ago I was thinking how awful he looked in a BBC article about his Easter Sunday speech.

Now the article is taken down and the only images up are from years ago where he looked in much better shape.

  5. First of all, RIP.

I’m going to Rome in 13 days. Does anyone know if this will alter my travel plans? Does Rome go into mourning/do things close? I’m flapping a little bit! If anyone has any idea or understanding, it would be very much appreciated.

Hope this doesn’t come across as being insensitive – people on this sub tend to be fairly helpful.

  6. Goodness. He really pushed himself to do what he did yesterday then.

  7. Oddly I was just thinking about the conclave movie last night.

  8. This is how I find out. Thanks Casual UK!

He seemed to be quite progressive as Popes go. Sad one

  9. Seems he put all his strength to be on the balcony for Easter blessing then just gave up

  10. Wow, I am not Christian but damn on this day of days it must sting even worse for those that do follow Catholicism. My condolences 🕊

  11. So close to having to make the Vatican let off all that smoke on 4/20, missed an open goal there Pope

  12. I’m not a Catholic myself, but as popes go, I quite liked this one. He seemed to have genuine compassion – especially for the underdog – which is something we could do with more of nowadays.

  13. Managed to hold on to give his guest yesterday a dressing down hopefully. I’m a lapsed catholic but will have to call my dad later to pass on condolences. As far as I know he was quite a liberal pope (?!lol) be interesting to see who they vote in next. Good day to watch Conclave!

  14. I’m not Catholic, but I thought he was a people’s pope.

  15. What a sad day, he moved the church on 500 years as an advocate for LGBT rights for example.

  16. At least we got to say goodbye in his way yesterday. Modern pope with modern views. He will be missed.

  17. He single-handedly made the Catholic church more forgiving and open to others than his predecessors and other forms of Christianity, including the Church of England that has taken a nosedive in popularity.

He wasn’t perfect, nor his church, but he was on the right side and didn’t spout bile and target groups of people based on bigotry. He wasn’t arrogant, and tried to be a friend to everyone, and was very liberal compared to what they used to be.

I’m not a Catholic but he did well for them. Hopefully his legacy carries onto the next Pope.

  18. He seemed a better choice for pope and his aversion to the gold and jewels did make more likeable.

  19. RIP.. a moderniser of the Catholic Church.. just yesterday he led Easter Sunday mass .. so sad
