Average house selling for above asking price

  1. >Properties in Ireland are on average selling for over 3.5% above their asking prices at the moment,

Interesting to see a calculated figure, rather than single egregious examples of properties selling for double asking.

I suppose there’s no outrage to be had in posting stories of houses selling close to or even below asking.

  2. USA here, we’re in a similar situation in some markets. My wife and I have recently had two offers fall through, one where we offered 70k USD over asking and one where we offered 120k USD over asking. It’s awful.

  3. Surprised to see it only at 3.5%. When my girlfriend and I were first looking to buy, we would routinely see properties go 100K over asking. The asking prices of these houses were less than 400k to begin with.

  4. Just recently was outbid at final stages of house purchase. Final successful bid went for 15% above asking. Seems crazy but the agent had lowballed the asking price to get that bidding war I guess

  5. Been looking for a place for 3 years now. From my experience they go for 50-70k over asking.
    Fuckin nuts

  6. Everything I bid on/watched in Kildare went for 20+% over asking, albeit these were houses in the 180-225k range. But that’s on houses in the 180-225k range.

  7. The only way we managed to avoid that was to move away from Dublin and purchase a new build home. It’s not for everyone but we are happy we did it. We also had to wait over 6 months to receive the house . But we got a house in Gorey in March last year for 270k . And it closed for 270k in November when we got the keys. It’s 1 hours drive from Dublin where we work but with money that we saved from buying away from Dublin we bought an electrical car that costs us way less to comute with. The market It’s mad. Same house as ours are selling for 330k now just being build in our estate. It’s not easy..but with a lot of sacrifice and giving up some commodities it was doable for us . Good luck to everyone trying to buy a house . Bidding war It’s horible and dehumanising. We gave up after we lost 4 house(old properties) that were going up every day another 5k with all cash bidding
