A few people with outdoor fire chimneas which get used at BBQs,
Got a feeling that’s a bit of an exaggeration.
I’ve found the original report and skimmed it. This £1bn of health costs is a guesstimate. They do not actually count health episodes due to pollution and value them. Plus, the report focusses on the EU and UK and for all fuel types. I cannot see how they estimated the cost of UK wood burning when they do not have an accurate measure of how much wood is burnt in households. What the report does highlight well is that moving away from fossil fuels, etc., towards renewable sources, heat pumps and so on, could have an additional benefit on health. This headline really clouds the main issue the report aims to communicate.
But I can literally heat 10 rads, fill a tank with hot water and cook my dinner with a few bits of seasoned wood rather than spend god knows how much on gas, electricity or oil . Give us cheap electricity created from renewable resources and everyone has an option, in the meantime I’m sticking with the sticks.
“*Give us cheap electricity created from renewable resources and everyone has an option, in the meantime I’m sticking with the sticks.*”
“*I know 1 person who has an in door fire*”
no doubt more to come… let me predict a few:
– *What about people for who wood burners are their only source of heating*… ignoring that the majority of woodburners are in suburban homes that also have gas central heating
– excuses about people driving ICEs
– libertarian bollocks about their freedom to pollute being more important than others rights to clean air
– conspiracy theories about stories like this being due to lobbying by gas suppliers, or the government to make sure you can’t heat your home for ‘free’
One of my friends is getting a wood burner installed. She says it’s going to be cheaper to run using wood than it will be to run her gas central heating. I’ve even thought about it as well as it is much cheaper and wood is renewable.
I’ve got a log burner. It heats my water, It heats my home, Its cheaper then electricity, it is nice to look at.
The government can go do one. I’m keeping it.
Edit: just for context, this is a house out in the countryside, and we don’t use gas. All electric.
If only wood burning stoves had a number plate that could trace the owner !!!
Horse shite!!! They just want to make you buy fuel or electricity.
