Hello, I want to travel in Austria between the main cities. I found this website called [westbahn.at](https://westbahn.at/), and I have a question related to train travel. For example, check this image of a route between Wien and Salzburg. My question is, why are there three categories of prices for the same ticket? What is the difference between them and who can buy each? I would obviously be interested in the cheapest option but since I don’t have experience with this I would like to receive some good advice. Danke!
I would also want to know what are the most affordable means of travel in this country because I’d rather spend my money on food, coffee, museums etc.

Superpreis is a fixed Ticket, you are only allowed to take the train at that specific time on that specific day, you can’t refund or exchange it. If you miss that train you have to buy another one.
Standard allows some flexibility like that.
Vorteilspreis is for holders of discount cards, if you don’t have one of those it’s not valid.
The WESTsuper prices are train-bound, contingent and available in several price levels.
Holders of a valid and personalized ÖBB Vorteilskarte or any other valid and personalized European railway discount card are eligible for WESTbahn’s WESTvorteilspreis ticket. You have to show it at the ticket control on the train.
For public transport i recommend the app “ÖBB Scotty”.
This is a pretty good way to plan trips.

Walking and hitchhiking aside, unless you are in a group of 4+ people you’re likely cheaper using public transport, at 4 or 5 people you might be travelling slightly cheaper renting a car. Within cities (especially Vienna, also Salzburg): Public transport, no comparison.
