4 housemates in owner occupied house for €800 per room. What a bargain.

  1. Place looks immaculate, all bedrooms are ensuite. Not sure how expensive it is for Cork, but they’d be snapped up in Dublin.

  2. That seems about the average price for a room in a nice house like that. Great location too, near enough to town and right by Wilton.

  3. To be fair the house dies look nice and the kitchen has room for more than 1 person at a time. Bedrooms are great space for a couch and desk to study/work. I would say this is the nicest rent I have seen on here or lived in myself.
Not sure how this compares to the average price of the area though.

  4. OP is salty because rent received will likely cover the mortgage payments for the property, even after tax, meaning they’ll pay no rent themselves and gain equity in an asset for nothing. I think the rent is reasonable given the spec of the house. And I’ll prob be downvoted for this but I think fair play to the owner from benefiting from the opportunity. It’s better than owning a 5 bed house with 4 rooms vacant.

  5. I was paying 500 for a room 20 years ago, 6kms from Dublin city centre. Rent has never been cheap. Oh, and in small pokey houses – not a nice spot like that.

  6. In an ideal world this would be 300 a month per person, but we’re so totally beyond fucked that I would say this is an absolute god send for the four who get a place.

  7. Okay hear me out, nice place but really expensive for Cork and, as it is owner occupied, you have very weak tenancy rights. Also, as the rent is high, there will be more of a time delay getting tenants and turnover rates etc.

If you assume 100% occupancy, you get €38,400 per year at 50% tax is €19,200 (and a few months will probably have at least one empty room). However, in an act of true altruism, the owner could make €14,000 a year tax free on the Rent a Room scheme (so less than €500 per month less and you would have guaranteed 100% occupancy). This would also result in much cheaper rent (€290 per month) which could result lowering rents in the area in general. This also highlights just how high rental income / income is taxed in this country.

  8. €800 for a room is scandalous I don’t care how big the room is Jesus Christ this country is a shambles for rent.

  9. That’s a bargain !! I paid £800 for a room in London, with a boiler in it, and the double bed took up most of the space, couldn’t open my wardrobe doors as the bed was in the way etc..!
That is place is so gorgeous and spacious!

  10. Massive rooms, some with their own couches if you were so inclined to be a recluse, in Cork, with wifi and bins included.

En suites in all but the cheapest room.

Actually looks quite reasonable if not a touch expensive, but jesus that’s some well maintained house.

  11. Is this an ad? The place looks class, if everyone in the house got on I’d be happy out paying that. Maybe I’ve just lost any sense of value considering the state of things

  12. I’m having flashbacks to a double ensuite I rented in Cork City centre in 2016 for €300 per month. However, the place was grimy as hell, and to be honest this looks quite nice.

  13. For Dublin that sounds quite decent, as long as the landlord isn’t a thundering cunt. And you of course have bugger all legal protections.
