China to sanction US Congress members and others who ‘acted egregiously’ on Hong Kong

  1. What a fun way to start the week. China is really gearing up to let the US know it won’t be bullied or made out to be anyone’s victim. Normally they’re much quieter than this. I think Trump has activated and much more active China in a way that the United States isn’t ready for. Which is annoying for me as an American. 

  3. Everything the west warned that would happen with the NSL forced to pass in Hong Kong, came true. Hong Kong has all but ceased to exist as any kind of entity autonomous of the CCP.

  4. What does this do, these congress member have no intentions of going to H.K or China or intended to get a bank account in Chinese bank. Whereas the sanctioned Chinese member can’t go to USA to see their kids or thier grandkids or hold visa/master cards or a bank account in most international bank. So all but token piece sanction.

    Imaging being the head of a financial hub of Asia and not allowed to have a bank account in the very land your govern. That’s going to be a slap on the face.

  7. I don’t know how it would be negotiated but a trade deal with the US and China would have to be heavily about currency manipulation. China joined the WTO in 2001 and it’s been a joke. If I was to inject any opinions into a new deal with China and the West just as starters.

    * Combat Currency Manipulation
    * Take China off the “developing nation” list

  9. Wrong turn, China. Sanction those who are in favor of tariffs, yes… you actually may find allies on a moral basis. Over HK, you will find no sympathy.

  10. Trump once said if China invades Taiwan, he will slap them with 100% tariff, China right now: wait, we get a discount?

  11. I am sorry but hongkong is part of china now. It shouldn’t get any special advantages than the rest if china. China went in and took over hongkong and imprisoned many people.
    This action null/void any special concussion for hongkong.

    China many times stated the treaty for hongkong old and has no Value unenforceable.
    Yet now they cry when we treat hongkong like any other Chinese City.

    Sorry china broke the hongkong agreement. You guys voided all good faith and any special trade advantages hongkong received.

  12. This should be a slam dunk for US diplomacy in strengthening our alliances and isolating China, just as we did Russia in the past. Instead we’ve isolated ourselves and now China feels emboldened to embark on its imperialistic ambitions.
