Princess Isabella of Denmark marked her 18th birthday with a special milestone: her first official tiara wear!
Princess Isabella turned 18 on April 21, and the Danish Royal House released her first official gala portraits to mark the milestone. The three snaps, captured by photographer Steen Evald in the Knight’s Hall of Frederick VIII’s Palace in Amalienborg, showed Princess Isabella wearing an orange satin gown with her blue Order of the Elephant sash and regalia. She crowned the look with her first tiara, which was a gift from her grandmother, Queen Margrethe.
The Danish Royal House confirmed that Queen Margrethe, 85, gave Princess Isabella the diadem with turquoise and diamonds on the occasion of her 18th birthday. The delicate headpiece features the precious gems in flower settings and connects Princess Isabella to her grandmother in a sweet way, as Queen Margrethe’s family nickname is Daisy.

“The tiara is a so-called ‘bandeau,’ a headband in French, as the relatively narrow tiara is intended to be worn almost horizontally as a hair band,” the palace said in a statement about the floral tiara, explaining that it is made of gold and is adorned with 11 rosettes of “daisy-like flowers” in decreasing sizes.

“The tiara was made in the late 19th century and belonged to Crown Princess Margareta of Sweden. After her untimely death in 1920, her daughter, Princess Ingrid, received the tiara as a confirmation gift and brought it to Denmark upon her marriage to the later Frederik IX,” the court continued.
“Like many other pieces of the Royal House’s jewelry, the tiara has multiple functions, as it can be disassembled and used as a bracelet,” it said.

It was a total princess moment for Princess Isabella, who is the eldest daughter of King Frederik of Denmark and Queen Mary.
Like the British royals, the Danish royal family has an impressive collection of jewelry and Isabella’s new tiara is part of a parure, or matching set. According to The Court Jeweller, the young royal paired her tiara with a pair of matching drop earrings, which were apparently borrowed from her mom’s jewelry box!

The fan blog reported that Queen Margrethe gave her daughter-in-law Mary the parure as a gift for her 50th birthday in February 2022, and Mary wore another pair from the set to the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla in London in May 2023.
Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday was fêted with a double set of celebrations in the cities of Aarhus and Copenhagen earlier this month, and she wore another pair of shimmering earrings from her mother’s jewelry box for a glam night out at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen on April 15.
