Are they just going to follow the Emmy’s and make members pinky promise they watched them?
I guess they’re going to put them all in a theatre and clamp their eyes open Clockwork Orange-style.
They werent already? This explains a lot.
What are these rich people doing??
They weren’t watching the films? Like just out of curiosity and as film buffs?
I guess this explains a few things
This is one of those things that’s fully unenforceable but it shoulda been the standard already. To have people say they didn’t see something in a category so openly is really disrespectful. At least hide that shit 💁
Lol the Oscars are a joke. It’s all politicized and the nominees or winners do not really represent the ‘best’ films. It’s just PR and a big circle jerk for Hollywood. Being the winner can easily be bought.
How was this not already a rule
It’s so unbelievably stupid that this hasn’t always been the case. Apparently an Oscar meant absolutely nothing prior to this rule. How silly
The fact it wasn’t already a requirement is 🙄
I fear this approach may give the awards an air of legitimacy
Cool idea to have a steaming service with the movies and you can’t vote unless the service records you having seen every film. However, if they are movie buffs of means wouldn’t they have tried to catch a lot of these movies in theaters? And would documenting the time and place you saw it, if not on the streaming service, be easy enough to work around actually seeing it?
How do you police that?
I listened to a podcast about all the work the special effects Oscar board/team goes through to come up with the list of potentials and finalizing it… and people don’t even have to watch the movie to vote. Absolute joke.
Kirsten Dunst is the only one I can think of who has talked about how she always makes sure to watch everything before voting. I’m sure there are more members who do, but it was a pretty well known issue; one reason Harvey was so good at securing Oscars in the 90s Miramax days was because he would organize opulent screening events, which guaranteed that Academy members had seen the films he was pushing.
On today’s episode of Americans voting on something without doing their homework
Clearly they didn’t see Dune part 2 as they would have voted for that masterpiece.
This explain Emilia Perez.
Confirms many suspicions and is more proof of previous bullshit favoritism that hurt films of the past, when they should have won easily. Probably nominations too. Let’s lock that shit up Hollywood.
If it’s a digital screener watch, it should have a stamp that forces you to watch the entire thing, like the endless training videos the public is forced to endure for work. If you turn away it stops.
Oscar voters, watch your fucking movies please.
Thank you
The Fans
Wait, that wasn’t a thing before?!
That actually explains a lot….
I feel like this invalidates all oscars beforehand like wdym they didnt have to watch the movies😭😭
And how has this not been a requirement the last 96 years?
i’m more happy that they are finally acknowledging stunts as a catagory
What the actual fuck?! One might think that this is the bare minimum before voting for a movie…
Heck I thought that would’ve Always been required
Why the actual fuck wasn’t this already a rule?!?!
