Lahti has the stereotype that every one is on speed.
Should take a look at north Korea lol
Mainly known for it’s large harbor and paper industry. Most stereotypes would involve ships and sailors and related things. News stories about the large amounts of detected meth in Kotka wastewater didn’t really seem to have a particular reason for it. Maybe a lot of drugs flow through the large harbor in to the country.
Kotkan meripäivät is the third largest festival in Finland and source of many memes such as the one already posted here.
They used to serve human meat on pizza
If I remember correctly there is a small Aquarium there, but nothing comparable to SeaLife in Helsinki 🤔
Well it’s not in Czech, and this map and post are both stupid af.
Kotka has one very bad district called Karhuvuori which causes all negative statistics attached to Kotka. It has a lot of 60’s apartment buildings which are dirt cheap to rent. I remember reading from somewhere that by moving there you can invest the rent savings into drugs and also that there are a lot of like-minded people with whom you can party with or buy drugs from.
Came from Kotka about 3 hours ago. Kotkan saari is mostly old people. Nice people. I know some stoners, but nothing that bad.
My grandfather made the small planets and maps in katariina.
Now Karhula’s where shit gets real. Lots of rude old people, drunkards and such. Otherwise a nice place to visit family. 10/10, would never live there.
Edit: Forgot to mention karhuvuori. Huge shithole. Probably the most welfare recievers in Finland, drug issues, A guy once chopped up his landlord.
I just saw the title and immediately thought about amphetamines, then I saw the map. So yeah, pretty accurate.
Haukka se on.
Apart from the drugs, violence, sailor and other stereotypes, here are some facts:
– Jasper Pääkkönen, the actor who plays Halfdan the Black in the show Vikings, owns a cottage in Kotka, where he comes to fish,
– Kotka used to be the gambling and booze capital during the Finnish prohibition (interesting how the trend continues),
– there’s a fishing lodge built by Tsar Alexander the third, in Langinkoski,
– the city was mostly destroyed by the British navy during the Crimean war,
– sunken warships off the coast, and some of them are protected diving sites (St. Nikolai),
– Kotkansaari stinks in the mornings especially on Sundays (some factory cleaning thing, I think?)
I lived there two years and the best thing about Kotka is the Sapokka water garden and the duck there that looked like Ringo from the Beatles.
My new vacation map. Thanks.
I moved there a year ago, and I find it actually pretty clean and peaceful here.
