  1. So…most are the complete opposite of what Francesco did and then there a couple who are more or less on his same level.

Its going to be spicy. I do hope we get Zuppi or Tagle tho

  2. I would like the conservatives to get mad at a black pope…

  3. I don’t think it’ll be a conservative one, it would risk running in contrast with most countries. A liberal one would be liked here on Reddit but in the real world he would likely alienate most Christians. Pietro Parolin would be a good choice but Peter Tukson might be the best choice to show faith in Africa.

  4. Wasn’t there a Maltese cardinal who has a chance of becoming the pope

  5. „gender ideology“
    LGBT people: we wanna exist
    That Card: such vile ideology

  6. God save us from Leo Burke, although it would be cool for that simple fact that there would be a 99,999% of him bringing back the Papal coronation!

  7. As long as it’s not the yank cunt “of Irish descent “, the christofascist prick.

  8. You amateurs base your opinions on the description, I base my opinion on the flag

  9. If it‘s going to be the Savage, we know why JD pisspants was there

  10. I wonder if Conclave will have a surge of watches starting today

  11. Am I the only one who thought Raymond Leo Burke is American even before looking at the flag?

  12. As always, it won’t be any of them.

I think the only one in the last popes who was expected was Ratzinger.

  13. The Sri Lankan cardinal only wants boys bending over at the altar.

  14. I’m no Christian but, the one “against refugee acceptance”… had he read his own book?

  15. A Filipino pope would be wild and therefore the one I want

  16. I vote for the girl that has description -“post your reply”

  17. Please make the next pope black. That would be the funniest shit that could happen.

  18. Keep in mind that “liberal” and “conservative” mean very different things here, and all of these men are very conservative by general european standards.

  19. Italian or Cardinal Tagle.

But definitely not the christofascist from the US.

  20. > against LGBT rights

    > against altar girls

The duality of a Catholic priest

  21. Card. Ranjith against altar girls

  22. The American one looks like he’s been eating the alter boys instead of just molesting them.

  23. Realistically I think it would be Parolin or Zuppi. Someone who has similar views as Francis. Also because the papacy generally favours Italians and I doubt would elect an African or Asian. As long as it’s not the Yank tho.

  24. A Dutch pope would be ironic since the existence of the Netherlands is based on not being catholic

  25. As everybody knows, God is a proud member of the Dutch Reformed Church, so I don’t give a shit who becomes the next pope.

  26. Let’s be realistic. While I doubt we’re gonna get an excessively conservative Pope, a liberal Pope on a pragmatic level would probably destroy the Church.

Francis’s strength was in the fact that while he was more liberal, he still ultimately stuck to Catholic teaching. He still kept to traditional beliefs and ultimately was a fairly unifying figure for most Catholics, mostly because he didn’t say too much to ruffle the feathers of anybody.

But if he was anymore liberal, I could easily see people leaving the Church in swathes. Ultimately, a liberal Pope would be more popular with people outside the Catholic Church than a lot of Catholics.

From my non-religious and somewhat socially liberal view, but someone who still wouldn’t wanna see the Church fall apart, it’d probably be better for the Churches survival to have a more traditionalist Pope. People are under the mistaken belief that for a Church to remain relevant, it has to adapt its teachings more and more to modern social values. But Churches, only remain relevant if they’re consistent. Why do people join specific churches? Because of the specific teachings they have, because it means something to be part of that specific Church. If a Church constantly changes its teachings to fit changing social standards, why would anyone join it? Might as well be non-denominational.

  27. Imagine an American being the king of a small, European country. No thank you. I’m hoping for the Ghana guy. It would piss of the American right, and the pope has no influence over my life in the slightest

  28. I vote Erdő so every designer will have a job for years adjusting systems for ő (U+0151).

  29. I love how here “conservative” basically means they hate the gays

  30. As we live in the worst timeline, I await the Arrival of Pope Raymond Burke.

  31. I am a pretty conservative catholic and I from these options the cardinal from Ghana looks like a decent option. A moderate pope is the way to go, I think a progressive pope would move more people away from Catholicism than he would bring.

  32. 🇵🇭 Gotta be Philippines. Very Catholic country, it’s about time they had a pope, plus they’re threatened by China which doesn’t exactly get along well with the Vatican. This could work like the appointment of JP2 but in south-east Asia, bolster national morale, act to contain Chinese aggression, and give confidence and recognition to catholics not just in the Philippines but all across south east Asia. Religiously he’s a continuity candidate so all good there. Cardinal Tagle ftw
