New U.S. Ambassador to Japan George Glass said Tuesday he is “very optimistic” about ongoing tariff talks between Washington and Tokyo, ahead of the second round of the negotiations expected later in the month.

After meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at his office, Glass told reporters that the two countries are in a “golden age” both “economically and friendship-wise.”
