The lira USDTRY traded at 38.2400 at 0415 GMT, after closing at 38.2010 against the U.S. dollar on Monday.

GLOBAL MARKETS

Japan’s Nikkei edged lower in a choppy session on Tuesday, as investor caution prevailed amid lingering concerns over U.S. tariffs and President Donald Trump’s continued criticism of the Federal Reserve chairman.

ERDOGAN PROGRAMME

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will meet with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset (1200 GMT) and then Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn (1300 GMT). Erdogan will then attend a dinner reception with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Ankara (1500 GMT).

MAIN OPPOSITION

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Ozgur Ozel will speak at his party’s group meeting (1030 GMT).

TRANSPORT MINISTER

Turkey’s Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu will visit Damascus Airport in Syria. Uraloglu will meet with his Syrian counterparts.

CONSUMER CONFIDENCE (TRCONC=ECI)

The Turkish Statistics Institute will announce April consumer confidence index data (0700 GMT).
