Agreement looks to elevate Sim Racing in Malta

World Pro Racing and the Malta Motorsport Federation announced a two-year partnership to elevate sim racing across the island.

The deal will bring the official Malta National Sim Racing Championships once again to screens in 2025 and 2026, offering local drivers a shot in a series of exciting events.

The championships will roll out four competitions, each putting racers’ skills to the test across different styles. These are Malta National Sim Racing Hill Climb Championship, the Malta National Sim Racing GT3 Championship, the Malta National Sim Racing Karting Championship and the Malta National Sim Racing F4 Championship.

For the top drivers, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Winners of the 2026 championships will earn the chance to represent Malta at the FIA Motorsport Games, an international event that celebrates motorsport’s finest.

“It’s a golden opportunity for Maltese racers to take their sim racing talent internationally,” an MMF statement said.

“To join the grid, competitors will need an MMF Esports License fee, and every licensed driver gets a free one-year iRacing key.

“It’s a move aimed at welcoming newcomers thanks to MMF and iRacing, making sure anyone with a passion for racing can get in the driver’s seat.

“The timing couldn’t be better. With the FIA recently throwing its weight behind sim racing, all events in this partnership will follow the federation’s official rules under the International Sporting Code – Appendix E.

“For Malta, it’s a big step up, putting the country’s sim racers on the same playing field as the world’s best.”

The WPR-MMF team-up isn’t just about crowning champions but also about building something lasting.

Beyond the main events, WPR plans to host regular community races to help beginners find their footing and gain confidence. The aim is to spark more local competition, get the community engaged, and show how sim racing can open doors to real-world motorsport.

“We’re proud to once again collaborate with MMF to continue growing local esports and beyond,” said Adrian Figallo, Co-Founder of World Pro Racing.

“It’s time we focus more on sim racing grassroots, as we’re very limited when it comes to top-tier local competitions. Many tend to shy away from such events due to our local nature and the fear of losing. This mentality has to change.

“Through our community events and championships, we aim to guide competitors, prepare them for high-level competition, and help them learn from their mistakes to improve.

“There is no difference between a foreign player and a local driver – this issue is well-known in Malta. The only difference is commitment and dedication, which drive you to become an elite driver. That’s it. No excuses.

“The one-year iRacing license, made possible thanks to MMF and iRacing, is an extra boost to lower costs for drivers, allowing them to participate in multiple races, gain skills, and grow.”

On his part, Duncan Micallef, president of the Malta Motorsport Federation said: “Sim racing is an integral part of modern motorsport, and this partnership with World Pro Racing will help us unlock its full potential in Malta.

“Together, we aim to create opportunities for drivers to compete at the highest level while fostering a vibrant and inclusive sim racing community.”

The Malta National Sim Racing Championships are poised to be a game-changer, whether you’re a seasoned racer or just starting out, this is an opportunity to enter into the world of sim racing and be in the chance to bring your dream to life in reaching top-tier competitions, both locally and international.

One can follow the Malta Motorsport Federation’s social media pages and World Pro Racing to be notified when these events are launched.
