  1. Nothing incredible about that. I bet they are tiny inside yet ridiculously expensive

  2. Looks like a 1980’s soviet project. They’re atrocious. Also something with much higher density could have been produced.

  3. That’s what you get when your architect designs in Minecraft.

  4. It’s almost as if people having a roof is more important than cars having a roof.

  5. 2 birds with one stone: more houses which are much needed. Also removal of, doubtless useful, but fugly garages in exchange for attractive buildings.

  6. I like it, though the word incredible is a little bit funny for quite standard housing.

    Good policy

  7. There’s a development an awful lot like this in Clapton that I went past recently. [Here’s the location](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Clapton,+London/@51.5537805,-0.037946,3a,75y,276.03h,88.3t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1s-JFG30re_I6Ubd-GUrSLWg!2e0!5s20150401T000000!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D1.7041377704338458%26panoid%3D-JFG30re_I6Ubd-GUrSLWg%26yaw%3D276.02942371882625!7i13312!8i6656!4m6!3m5!1s0x48761c5bd6e201d9:0x702506eb7021ac7b!8m2!3d51.5584687!4d-0.0559163!16s%2Fg%2F11h2g1_r0l?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDQxNi4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D), no street view of the finished product yet, I found [this article](https://www.eastlondonlines.co.uk/2024/10/council-homes-in-hackney-win-architecture-award-for-best-affordable-housing/) about the development, but it looks nicer in person now it’s a bit more lived in tbh.

Central government should be supporting councils as much as they can if they want to build stuff like this. They should ditch Right to Buy, and create a mechanism where local authorities can borrow straight from the government instead of needing to go to banks. Unfortunately it’s hard to see any major policy differences between the current government and the half century of failures under the Conservatives and New Labour.

  8. Cool, instead of ugly useless garages now they’re ugly *useful* houses 🙂

  9. They did something similar in Greenwich where they replaced garages with sheltered housing bungalows. Junction of Tyler St/woodlands park road for one, but I think there were several around Maze Hill.

  10. Dunno about “incredible” but I’ll take it. Building homes > not building homes.

  11. Nice design but it feels like we have regressed into finding it acceptable building back street dwellings again reminiscent of Victorian back to backs/ slums facing onto back alleys and not proper streets like this… Though I doubt there is a communal toilet at the end of this alleyway!

  12. Its almost as if theres a crisis for affordable homes… All the new build small family homes locally to me in Hounslow have been extended and built up by property developers to line their pockets and are now unaffordable… Heres looking at you Hounslow planning office.
