The fact he has to defend this is ridiculous. 6k sneakers?! Dude get a job if you want to be that wasteful!
He should be praised for this, no one let alone a kid needs a pair of shoes that cost that much money
I like the way Jackie Chan said it in an interview.
“Jackie Chan has stated he plans to donate his estimated $400 million fortune to charity rather than leaving it to his children, specifically his son, Jaycee Chan. He reportedly wants his son to learn to make his own way in the world, believing that wealth shouldn’t be handed down but used for good.”
If I had his money I’d buy my kids $6k shoes too
My issue when wealthy people say this (and I know they mean well, so I’m NOT criticizing) is the issue of risk: If any of his children got injured, developed some illness or addiction, or even were completely financially ruined by some endeavor, I’m sure they would be taken care of.
Regular folk cannot take as huge a risk in life. I certainly applaud them for trying to instill good values and manners in their kids, but they’re already born on 3rd base.
Edit: Dang, people sure do love sucking off the wealthy…
Id atleast want to give my kids something to start out no million dollar type bs but be able to give them like 50K or something to use for college. I fully respect this parenting though
I’ve never said this before, and I’ll likely never say it again, but I am fully in support of what Ben Affleck is doing.
Just because someone is famous, doesn’t give the world the right to interfere with their parenting.
He’s not abusing the kid. He’s not withholding food or speaking out against vaccines ( that I know of, damn you reddit for making me think about this crap)
It’s no different than a poorer person telling their kid to pay for their own $600 sneakers.
I suppose being famous means everyone will judge you, I just prefer to leave well cared for kids out of it.
I say the same about politicians. Back when Ws daughters got shit faced at a party, I was like no way! Teenagers partying?!!!! That’s between them and their parents.
And I am not a fan of Bush.
> *“He wanted these sneakers, and I was like, ‘These sneakers are $6,000, what are you talking about? What are you gonna do, mow lawns? You got $6,000?’ “ Affleck joked. “He was like, ‘We have the money.’ I was like, ‘I have the money! You’re broke.’”*
Hahaha
Good on Ben for raising his kids with a little less sense of entitlement. He sounds like a good dad.
Fuck they mean “defends”?? was the public upset at him for this???? 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Makes sense, lol. That’s funny the little boy asked for them in the first place. I wouldn’t do it, either. I’d happily pay for school and opportunities like travel or a nice used car, even, but shoes? Lol.
I remember an article about Tebucky Jones taking his kids to a lower income area YMCA so they could understand/appreciate what they had.
His son kind of looks like Matt Damon.
The really valuable lesson would be to get the kid to understand that $6K sneakers are inaccessible to nearly everyone else and what that means.
$6K sneakers?! Can he jump to the moon with them?
Okay? Don’t get me wrong, were i rich my children would have a far comfier life than i had but they’re not going to be handed everything they want for nothing, especially not fuckin 6k sneakers.
Watch Brad Pitt buy them to get back in his kids lives
No one should pay 6k for sneakers
Is this not Bruce Wayne??
He shouldn’t have to defend shit for being rich from working hard and smart.
I would like it more if he would solely criticize the sneakers being $6,000 because that seems like the biggest reason why you shouldn’t buy them. I could have 5 jobs and a winning lottery ticket and I still would never buy something so erroneously priced.
No one on earth needs $6000.00 shoes. Maybe a million dollar race horse would. I will ask my farrier brother that question!
My kid ever asked for 6k sneakers I would kick him right square in the ace
Growing up I got the sense our family had some money – not rich, but definitely not struggling. I asked my Dad, why not have a nice car? We were driving minivans that were 10+ years old. He told me, I’d rather have money in the bank than a car in the driveway. I got to driving age around 1999… my first car was the hand-me-down ‘87 Dodge Caravan.
Stuck with me ever since.
Samuel does not need $6k sneakers. Literally no one does. And this was some stellar Grade A parenting on Ben’s part. A plus.
