So, I arrived yesterday on Monte Brè with my car, the parking spots were all occupied, but the spaces for charging from Emotì were free. As I always use Emotì, I parked there and grab the cable to charge my car, but the station was defective.
Then, a question arose on my mind and it is still here today: what is acceptable to do in this situation?
I mean, I would charge and left the car parked there, but the terminal was not working. Should I :
- just remove the car and search somewhere else?
- left the car parked there, but I need to pay in the parking meter as a normal spot?
- left the car parked there and not pay?
I really want to know, in order to avoid doubts in other situations like that.
Ps: In my city comunal parking, we need to pay only from Monday to Saturday, not on Sundays and Holidays. I assume this rule does not apply to every parking spot either a parking meter, right?

The sensible thing to do (in my opinion) would be to call the charging provider and ask them whether they can either fix it or tell you whether you can park there as they can’t fix it anyway.
Parking is usually free on Sundays and public holidays, but EV charging spots may have their own rules, which can apply every day, including weekends. These spots are typically for active charging only, so if the terminal isn’t working, it’s best to move the car.
You always have to check the parking meter what applies. In some tourist spots it might even be that you have to pay only on weekends!
Every parking lot will have its own rules. Communal parking spots have theirs, privately owned/operated facilities too. There’s no general rule.
With that being said, this is not a parking spot. If you’re not charging you shouldn’t be using that spot. So ideally you look for another spot. I guess you could place a note saying the charger is out of order and pay for the parking like everyone else, and honestly I doubt anybody will mind but you never know which Buenzli in uniform you’ll encounter next… But you do run the risk of the charger company sending a repair crew and then you’re effectively blocking a working charging spot !
I’d just leave the cable inserted in the car and pretend I don’t know it’s broken. From my experience, nobody really cares.
happened to me at another emoti’, charger was on but unresponsive and the emoti’ app would not let me start charging.
So i just left the car plugged in, and went my merry ways. Every now and then I checked on the app if it was possible to start charing, but that was never an option.
Came back, unplugged the car, and drove away.
