Surge in men searching for Ukrainian escorts on Irish sites

  1. Alright…I’m gonna say it, is this true, or is this just another moral panic like the Carlow School Teachers or Spiking-injections?

I don’t doubt there’s scumbags on the borders of Ukraine trying to traffic women, but I don’t see why this unnamed ‘Irish escort site’ would willingly tell the paper this data and that they’re apparently telling users to visit Ukrainian escorts?

Especially when they know the paper is just going to make them look bad, doesn’t add up tbh.

  2. Why would the site provide this info to the newspaper and why the fuck would they say this:

    >The site also recommended soliciting Ukrainian escorts rather than turning to pornography, claiming it’s “an ethical and most importantly consensual and healthy way to live out any war-inspired fantasy.”

Bang of fake news off this

  3. Who collected this information and what and where is their job location. The whole thing sounds made up, I wouldn’t believe a word of it.

  4. This article is propaganda.

It’s has the involvement of Ruhama, an organisation that is strongly against sex workers and wants to harm them. They claim to want to help sex workers but this is gaslighting. I’m involved in the kink community and therefore have a few sex worker friends and acquaintances, they are all united against Ruhama.

Here is Senator David Norris’ take on them.

“I also want to take up this business of Ruhama, and Stop the Red Light (sic). It’s time this type of nonsense was really, honestly addressed….Despite the puppeteering going on by this middle class collection of ex-nuns and radical feminists…98% of the women for whom the voices are being articulated by the self-appointed group are opposed completely to it….the police are against it, by and large. Everybody realises that it’s going to be inoperable, ineffective and going to lead to serious risks to the lives and welfare of women and men involved in the sex business. So yes, prostitution is messy, it’s regrettable but it’s a fact of life.”

  5. My two cents:

Regarding the porn thing – honestly meh. Searches for “Irish” porn become more popular around Paddy’s Day, searches for “Christmas” porn becomes more popular around Xmas. Ukraine has been in the news a lot lately and popular things tend to lead to an increase in porn searches for same. As the old adage goes – “If it exists, then there’s porn for it.” And I daresay a lot of people probably only had a faint awareness of the existence of Ukraine prior to this. Mountain out of a molehill stuff.

As for the escorts things – that’s more concerning, mainly because, if true, it sounds like dodgy types might be preying on vulnerable women who are fleeing the warzone. Everything should be done to protect these women from being coerced into sex work against their will.
