I believe that he was apart of the Polish legions in Austria-Hungary, but I have been unable to identify the badge on his collar. Could any historians or experts help identify what the insignia means? Thanks.

Potential for it to be a photo of a Polish officer in Haller’s Blue Army. Polish (and others) fighting under the French Army in WW1. This uniform would be a private purchase uniform. I can see the Polish buttons on the tunic. I can’t make out the insignia on the collar, the French Army used a lot of collar insignia to denote various type of specialists/ officers.
