Switzerland wants to buy 36 F-35 stealth strike aircrafts for 6,035 billion CHF. The SP, green party and GSoA launched an initiative to prevent the order and gathered 88’000 signatures so far. This was before the war in Ukraine happened. Do you think such an initiative has any chance now?

  1. The chances of the initiative were slimm to begin with, and are even slimmer now. I honestly don’t think they have much of a chance. It’s just a delaying tactic at this point.

  2. I just don’t see how these planes will help us that much. Their big advantage is that the can carry nukes which we don’t have.

  3. I really hope this initiative has a chance. It’s one thing to have an appropriate sky police and to some extent an air force but it’s another story to have the absolute best fighter jet at a ungodly price

  4. I think this is the wrong plane for Switzerland. But the Swiss are very fearful now because of that war, so they will grant the military a blank check for everything they fancy. A golden age for them (and the defense industry) to buy all the stupid toys they never would be able to if the Swiss were thinking straight.

  5. I don’t know if it has a chance but the war in Ukraine makes me think that those 6 billions could probably be better used in drones and anti aircraft and drones systems.

  6. Your website calls the F35 a “stealth bomber”. For starters, it’s not a fucking bomber. It’s a multi-role fighter. How am I supposed to take anything they say seriously if they can’t even get that part right?

  7. So in the past days this topic was all over the news and discussed within political panles. However they rarely mentioned in which way new fighter jets are providing some sort of security.

I think we can safely assume that Switzerland will be in a defensive position in a war. Isn’t the frst thing that gets attacked all the airfields? Also do we even have enough ressources to adequatly defend our airspaice from the ground?

I feel like overall the jets seem to be useless and we would be far better of investing in drones , new surface to air missiles, and an up to date artillery.

I am not against investing in the military i just feel the money would be better spent on other improvements.

  8. Most people are ignorant and fearful, easily manipulable. The initiative is probably gonna fail.

This doesn’t change my option that these jets are useless, we don’t need jets, and we surely don’t need the top of the line, the most expensive ones out there. I wouldn’t buy them, those money could be better spend elsewhere. And even if, we really, REALLY wanted jets, we should buy eurofighters. They might be slightly worse than the F-35s, but having great relationships and spending money in European companies is much more important.
