Calling it the potato famine doesn’t exactly bode well
I’ll reserve judgement until I hear it. I do enjoy Behind the Bastards but the episode in the Tuam babies put me off quite a bit.
How hard would it have been to learn the pronunciation of the town it all happened in? (For those who didn’t hear it, he pronounces it “Twamm”).
Maybe part of it was just that it’s easier to see the flaws in an episode when you already know the story.
I wonder who the guest will be? Hope he doesn’t butcher too many pronunciations.
I find that podcast frustrating. He’s ok, and his research is quite good. But the woman with him….holy shite she’s so fucking annoying. I want to like it, but I can’t stand it
PSA, its not modern English people’s fault that their ancestors were complete wankers
And even at the time there were people in parliament calling those in power on their bullshit.
I like Evans but there’s an awful lot of shite talked on that podcast by the sidekicks – just nonsensical waffle.
I like the podcast in small doses. It usually has to be a topic I was already interested in.
Some of his topics has been great and the info is usually quite well researched.
Plus whatever guest he has on really affects the overall quality.
That propaganda guy is a dose to listen to as was some other guy who sounded like he was nervously reading off a page.
Not looking forward to some of his pronunciations if the Tuam episode is anything to go by.
Robert is great but everyone else on his podcasts (the sidekicks not the guests) makes them borderline unlistenable.
Any time I’ve listened to a BtB where I’m already familiar with the subject, it seems like RE gets himself to about a 3/10 knowledge wise and then feels qualified to expound on the subject for 2+ hours. I wouldn’t listen to this one.
