So recently so sink stopped working and we taped with her and she told us to call a company with whom she is a customer with. The technician came and tried to do the repair but told us and he is not able to do it and his company will ask another company which is specialised is this space. The guy came and did the repairs. Now the problem is that my Vermieterin wants us( I live in a WG) to pay for the 2nd bill because she already paid for the first one. Her words were “This is the other bill.
This bill will be paid from you all.
It means everyone will pay to the rent for May 40€ more.
Thanks very much and take care.”
I am attaching the bill which she sent us for reference.

  1. Nope. Its her problem. She has to pay it

Only when you damage something on purpose u have to pay.

  2. A blocked sink drainage, that’s not really a repair. It’s more like… a cleaning job. Arguably caused by incorrect use, unless you can prove a defect in the pipes. In my opinion it’s not worth arguing over it, I’d just pay.

Oh and check your renting contract for something like “repair cost up to xxx are covered by the tenants“ – those are both legal as well as common.

  3. What did they do to repair it? Was something broken because of wear / usage? Her problem. Was something broken because if wrong usage? Your problem. Was the drain clogged? She can argue that you caused it and it’s your problem. Pretty easy to say “before you moved in it was fine, now it isn’t. You caused it”.

We need a bit more information what the general problem was, why a 2nd company had to come (that’s specialized) and so on.

  4. Did the company say who is responsible for the blockage?

Could be you, then you have to pay.

Could be age or bad design, then the landlord has to pay.
