PREVIEW MX1

The early-season tone in the Kawasaki MX1 class is being set by previous year’s title-combatants Jed Beaton (Vic) and Kyle Webster (Vic), with the highly-anticipated clash of the titans coming to fruition two rounds into the season.

The two have effectively traded blows across the Wonthaggi and Appin rounds, with Webster’s second moto DNF at the opener putting a dent in his title defence. A resounding 1-1 at Appin for the Boost Mobile Honda rider sent a message to series leader Beaton, however, that the number one is far from out of this championship.

Steady in positions three and four are Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki’s Luke Clout (NSW) and KTM Racing Team’s Nathan Crawford (QLD), who undoubtedly reduced the deficit in Appin compared to Wonthaggi, highlighting they are much closer to the front-runners than what round one suggested. Motivation is at a premium for these two, and they’ll be ready to battle when the gates drop in Gillman.

PREVIEW MX2

On track, Polyflor Honda Racing’s Brodie Connolly (Vic) is yet to drop a moto win; however, a post-race penalty in Appin saw the defending champion relegated to third for the second moto, and second overall for the round. The number one will be fired up for round three, wanting to reaffirm his place at the top of the Pirelli MX2 Championship.

Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha’s Ryder Kingsford (NSW) had his head down in Appin and charged hard in every lap of both motos, with his no-quit attitude ultimately yielding the overall victory for the round. Kingsford’s intentions are clear – he wants to take the fight to Connolly and be a strong contender for the title this year.
