1. There are no friends in geopolitics, only temporary allies and enemies. Seems to me like a good moment to cozy up with China a bit more, given our shared… obstacle.

   I just remember how the EU had a massive shortage of medicines during the Covid pandemic, because workers in India got sick and facilities closed.

   If China invaded Taiwan and the USA would intervene, Europe would be caught between the fronts.

10. The Chinese (CCP) only want to get close enough to us. Not that they can dump more of they overproduction surplus cheaply into our market. If we have learned one essential lesson from the past three 3 months is that NONE can be truly trusted.

Maybe it’s a good time to invite China to live up to its rhetoric, stop being ‘backward in history and unpopular’ by supporting ruszia’s war in Ukraine, and start ‘upholding international rules’ of the ocean and respecting the integrity of sovereign nations like Taiwan. Being a better world citizen would certainly help China to find partners willing to cooperate in ‘safeguarding the multilateral trading system.’

24. China is not our friend, quite hostile on occasions but at least reliable and predictible for now.

    The USA is defenetly not our friend, erratic, untrustworthy, currently waging an economic war and litteraly threatening sovereign nations.

    Russia is nobody’s friend and is waging actual war on sovereign nations without any intent to stop there.

    If we have to pick a temporary partner to protect our interest, China is the lesser evil at the moment.

30. That might have been worth discussing if China wasn’t propping up Russia’s war machine, politically, economically, and industrially. Let’s be clear: without China, Russia’s capacity to sustain its invasion would have collapsed long ago. Instead, China provides the backbone of Russia’s military-industrial complex, enabling war crimes against innocent Ukrainian civilians and the weekly slaughter of thousands of Europeans on Ukrainian soil.

    If China thinks this behaviour is moral or defensible, it seriously needs to reassess its role on the world stage.

    And as for trade, engaging economically with China is a fool’s game. The entire system is designed to generate massive trade surpluses in China’s favour, gutting domestic industries in partner countries through weaponised mercantilism and dumping. Trade with China is economic sabotage dressed up as global commerce.

31. We made a mistake getting in bed with the US to the depth we did. We shouldn’t make the same mistake with China. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a tariff-free trade relationship.
