So I guess that young people backpacking around crashing on people’s floors is a thing of the past in MAGA America
I can think of no good reason to visit the usa under this administration.
So how is this new? When i was there in 2019 i had to prove where im staying to be allowed to enter
This has given me major pause about flying my MIL to visit us in the US. She only speaks Italian and Portuguese, so we usually write a letter for her explaining that she’ll be staying at our address during her stay. But after this I’m extremely worried that won’t be good enough, and her not speaking English will incite extra cruelty.
Maybe skip the USA visits for a while tbh…
Not that I was ever in rush to go there as there are far more interesting places to check out first, but holy hell, you couldn’t pay me to visit the U.S. now.
Those Europoors from Germany must have traveled around the world to find work in Hawaii, to get finally bon-bons, cans of Spam, nylon stockings and other modern luxuries not available in Germany since 1940.
They being women and teens and strip searched raises some flags in my mind honestly.
It’s like ICE don’t know how people travel since there is Airbnb and all the apps you can get a booking every day.
Absolutely disgusting the way they were treated – however yeah, showing up in Hawaii, one of the highest cost of living places in the country and extremely popular for tourism, with no booked accommodation does show they were probably gonna do some kind of workaway or woofing or something. I don’t agree with the policy but its reasonable for the officials to suspect they had intention to work.
Quick question that I have since this piece of news has been reported: is it because of the US recent customs and strange fixation over age than a 18 year old and a 19 year old are called “teens”?
Because, in an article where it’s about two “adults” during a vacation that have been detained, the story is not the same with two actual teens.
No hotel bookings and no plans.
Ironic that Americans can’t conceive of traveling this way… but the 🍊🤡 gang can govern with no forethought and no plans.
> According to reports, the two women were accused of intending to work illegally and were held in custody overnight
Well. That’s a different position.
I just wonder where it ends. People check their work email all the time. Same for job interview before you can fill the papers for the sponsorship of the greencard.
How about we start demanding that all Americans tourists have hotel bookings? This may be the way to combat the AirBnB plague too.
Do not visit the states, they are detaining folks for any petty reason. It’s not worth risking the cash.
Yeah, the US have always been paranoid in this regard but jailing strip searching and deporting them over that is unaccusable. At worst they should have refused them entry and let them take a flight back to Europe, you know without the strip searching and humiliating.
It is so embarrassing to be an American now.
If they had no accommodations booked, along with no funds to book things or fly, then this is standard. Nothing to get excited about since they were adults. The use of the word “teen” is rage bait
As someone that is going to the usa next week. This made me feel so weird
To be fair, if you are a adrenaline fanatic and want a wild ride for an holiday, surprises, twists, violence and unknown destination, USA is the place to be.
Isn’t a US address (to, say a hotel) a prerequisite for an ESTA entry permit? I’ve always had to give my hotels address when I want to go to the states. What address did they give?
And they really think someone from Europe would want to come to US to work illegally?? smh
I’d cross the US off my travel list, except it’s not on there. I’ve been for work twice and the only border control worse than them is Russia. Never again.
Anyone going there at this stage has to be insane.
Even for work, I have to go through two levels of security every time i need to enter the office due to the sensitive data we work with. We work undernintense EU regulations and airtight internal policies.
Then some obese, barely literate, monosyllabic yank at airport security decides they dont like the look of you and demands access to your laptop with a completely unwarranted level of aggression and nowbyour whole trip is in jeopardy.
Its worth noting that, although things have clearly deteriorated with Trump, this is a longstanding issue when entering the US. We are now in the process formalizing a process where we have a bunch of laptops stored in the US that we can use to avoid the insanity of US airport checks.
They were detained and strip searched because many of DHS are white incels and this is how they get their kicks and their revenge. I am an American. Listen to what I am telling you. Many DHS, ICE and private contractors such as for-profit managed holding facilities & prisons are former US serviceman from low military grades and have little education. When you exit the US military there has historically been preference in public sector hiring for military vets.
But Army E1 (Private) to E7s (Sgt First Class) and some grades of warrants tend to have only basic education (other than perhaps a trade specialty) and many have a giant chip on their shoulder. They exit for various reasons (many of them not good) and DHS and ICE scoop them up.
So now you have departments full of ex army military, mostly white male from rural and/or impoverished backgrounds, and just generally hating all for their general failure of life, but all safeguards, checks and balances have been removed. They form a solid block supporting Trump as he appeals to their conrage cores.
That is what you have to contend with at the border some, if not much of the time.
We are bombarded with news about women being detained and abused at both borders. Abroad your only seeing the tip of the iceberg.
It’s not a shocking reason at all. That’s a normal reason to be deported and it happens every day, during or before Trump.
Right now America is not a place vacation spot so spend your money elsewhere.
Plus, those immigration officers don’t just “go back to normal” after this administration ends. They just HIDE their hateful and violent tendencies until they’re alone in the room with some poor unfortunate soul. What do you think they were doing when Biden was in office? Not this, yet they keep their jobs. They’re sick opportunists.
I am supposed to be going to Ohio for work in the next few weeks.
Needless to say, the risk of spending time in El Salvador on the whims of a border agent means that I am now meeting the customer in Canada.
Canada gets the benefit of 2 lots of visitors booking hotel rooms, conference facilities, food etc.
