This is explained by the fact that young people usually study untill they are 21-25.
You cannot do full time job while studying so naturally you will earn way less than median.
Ofc the side of students that cant find work despite wanting, is doing way worse.
There has been a systematic wealth transfer from young people to elderly for the past 50 years. Unfortunately all parties are in favor of this, because the elderly are the biggest voter demographic.
This was on the finnish sub. most are full time or part-time students
The stat counts household income so those who continue live with their parents are less likely to have low income
Tax cuts have to be funded somehow.
That damned avocado toast.
So the Finnish govt. Calling more students as immigrants and they all are getting no jobs. The govt. Has no plans actually. We all immigrants paying feeses and getting no jobs during degree or after degrees. And No one talks about us. 😔
“Everyone needs to do their part and take a hit because of the current economic situation. High income people might even have to sell their sixth car, so everyone suffers when you look at it that way.”
Don’t worry, Purra will fix this. Lowering the corporate tax will help all young poor adults that are owners in a corporation /s
I’m a bit confused by the article.
What do they expect? That people don’t earn more money after graduating and developing a career?
I would consider it quite normal that you earn quite less money while young and studying and later being a junior at your profession. Then decade by decade you get more experience, better jobs and better income.
Only in socialism the income is the same for all. That didn’t work well in Soviet Union..
In addition to that, the definition of relative poverty is such that there is practically always poverty (unless everyone has same salary – see socialism). The limit of poverty in Finland is about 1400e/month, not including free accomodation in addition (from social security). There is no real absolute poverty in Finland, of course. The absolute poverty limit is 2 usd/day income.
It’s like young people start to work entry level positions with a shitty salary or live with benefits. Astonishing

You can calculate from here: https://pxdata.stat.fi/PxWeb/pxweb/en/StatFin/StatFin__opiskt/statfin_opiskt_pxt_11c5.px/
Around 30% study at higher ed, and over 40% study something. That’s of 20-29 year olds.
They of course have low income.
Young finns also have moved away from parental home at very high rates, only danes move as much: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fnzhhswryfdwe1.jpeg
