You can’t run an empire-level military with a shithole-level economy based on export of natural resources. At least not indefinitely. USSR lost the cold war because it basically bankrupted itself and it looks like they have learned nothing.

>The Russian aircraft’s status, and the status of the Russian defence
budget, also influence the level of training for the Russian pilots.
They accumulate much fewer flying hours than their Chinese, or NATO
counterparts for instance. This may have a positive impact on the number of air crashes – that were quite common over the last decade.

When will they start selling nukes to other countries? What is their actual downside
The navy is in a spot of bother as well as most of its large surface combatants are also soviet vintage and have not all been modernised and refitted.
Russia will experience a shrinkage in its assets just like other European countries did as their power declined. None the less its nuclear industry, missile capabilities, submarines and smaller surface ships are all capable. Russia’s internalised industries generally also mean it gets more from its budget than the equivalent dollar amount in Europe.
No wonder they are building a set of wunderwaffe. Hipersonic weapons, air launched SRBMs, nuclear powered loitering munition/cruise missiles, nuclear tipped cruise torpedos etc. I just wonder what happens when the EU will transition away from gas…
>These numbers are far less impressive when one realizes that a certain part of this potential has been inherited from the Soviet Union. We know that the Soviet Union fell in 1991 – 30 years ago.
wow, has it been already that long? “being soviet” now means being over 30 years old, even in the 40’s now?
if there is one lesson every military person needs to know about Russia, it’s this: do not fuck with Russia.
