NATO has reportedly escalated its alert status, sending fighter jets to the “highest state of readiness” following Russia’s severe offensive actions in Western Ukraine. The attacks come just after US Vice President JD Vance warned the US could “pull the plug” on Ukraine peace talks. Their Armed Forces Operational Command has verified that X marked the participation of allied air forces in border patrols near the Ukrainian boundary within Polish skies.
NATO, who saw one of their member nations have their sensitive nuclear documents attempted to be smuggled by Russia, issued a statement that read: “The steps taken are aimed at ensuring safety in areas bordering the threatened areas.” In addition, Polish radar and surveillance arrangements have been placed on high alert. Officials highlighted their units’ preparedness to act “immediately” should it become necessary.
The military aerial operations over Poland were called off after Russia ceased its long-range bombardments on Ukraine, the update mentioned, just days after Putin was accused of “attacking civilians” in Ukraine.

It further noted: “Poland’s air defense and radar systems, which had been activated in response, are now back to routine operations. Authorities confirmed there were no breaches of Polish airspace.
“The Polish Armed Forces continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine closely and remain on standby to safeguard national airspace.”
Overnight, a Russian missile and drone assault on Kyiv led to nine fatalities and 70 injuries, including six minors, as confirmed by Ukrainian officials on Thursday, reports the Express.
Kyiv’s City Military Administration disclosed that the attack incorporated at least 45 drones, with the Air Force of Ukraine anticipated to release more detailed reports later.
The attack occurred amidst stalled peace negotiations, with President Donald Trump criticizing President Volodymyr Zelensky for his refusal to surrender Crimea to Russia as part of a proposed peace plan.
Rescue efforts were still underway early Thursday morning, with emergency personnel retrieving bodies from the rubble of collapsed buildings and providing care to those injured in the assault.
On April 15, UK fighter jets intercepted two Russian aircraft that were flying dangerously close to NATO airspace. This action was part of the UK’s contribution to NATO’s enhanced Air Policing mission.
Two RAF Typhoons were quickly dispatched from Malbork Air Base in Poland to intercept a Russian Ilyushin Il-20M intelligence aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
Shortly after, a second scramble was initiated to intercept an unidentified aircraft departing from Kaliningrad airspace.
These incidents marked the RAF’s first interceptions under Operation CHESSMAN, supporting NATO’s Eastern Flank alongside Sweden.
