  1. Ain’t it wonderful that we’re poisoning the only spaceship we know (Earth) ?

Give more power to big corporations so they can keep on being the main sponsors of your main political parties from the left to the right, so they can keep on dictating what they want with the arguments “But the jobs !”.

Don’t worry, it’s not like we’re doing the poisoning on a global scale with micro/nanoplastics, PFAS and the several thousands of other synthetic chemicals we use and that end up in the water cycle.

Reassure yourself with banalities such as “Earth is big” or “We’ll always have enough and if problems arise, high-tech will fix it” while ignoring that the growing issues are from the deployement of high-tech.

    LMFAO :]

  2. I’m old enough to remember when clean water advocate Feargal Sharkey was telling us to vote for Starmer

  3. Also worth saying that there has been a massive surge in wild swimming thanks to both social media and traditional media jumping on the band wagon.

Edit: Hospitalisations from water-borne diseases increased by 60 per cent since 2010. Wild water swimming has grown by more that 60% since 2010, I’ve seen up to x3 since 2019 being mentioned.

A coroner in Sunderland has even warned that without better oversight / regulation there is a [risk of future deaths](https://news.sky.com/story/open-water-swimming-events-without-regulation-risk-future-deaths-warns-coroner-13353764).

  4. All because the Tories got rid of legislation that stopped water suppliers from dumping shit and raw sewage in to the rivers.

  5. I’m a doctor working in a hospital not far from the Lakes, and the number of people coming in with nasty infections from swimming in contaminated water is honestly surprising.

Trust me, that swim isn’t worth the worst gastroenteritis of your life or risking a limb to a serious soft tissue infection!

  6. And they have the audacity to raise our water bill… I’m so angry.

  7. Ok so households pay more to private companies for water and in return taxpayers also get to pay more to the NHS to treat the victims of the private companies.

    The art of the deal.

  8. I thought Labour would have sorted this by now. Nationalise all the water companies. They have a monopoly, so there is no competition and therefore should never have been privatised.

  9. What happened to people en masse sending letters before action to the water companies?

  10. Don’t worry, it’s not the fault of the water companies constantly dumping raw sewage in rivers and the sea.

Give us a couple of years and we’ll tell you who to blame (immigrants probably).

  11. My wife and children got really ill last summer from swimming in a local river.
The year before a group of 10 children also got severely ill and we’re hospitalised. When the local paper reported on it all the comments were “I used to swim there when I was a child and never got ill” or accusing them of being attention seekers.

There was a sewage treatment works opened up river, from a newly built housing estate a couple of years before all the local news reports about people getting ill started getting reported.

I looked into getting the water designated as a bathing area, because without that there is no testing. To become a bathing area you need roughly 100 people in the water a day between May and September, so unless it’s a really busy beach it’s unlikely to ever happen.

So now we can’t go to swim in the little river, where people have swam for generations and not only do people not seem to care, but the comments were actively defending the water company.

  12. This is a serious question.

I’m 32 and all my life ive been taught it’s not safe to swim in English water because u can get sick but at what point were we able to swim in our streams because they weren’t polluted by the water company’s?
Anyone remember a time where we could swim in our rivers? If so what year was this.

  13. Exactly what was going to happen after leaving the eu. The dirty man of Europe returns . Profits over pollution.

  14. The Tories destroyed the fabric of this country and the corporations are picking us for parts.

The fact Labour aren’t trying to undo all that shit is a tragedy

  15. Why would you go swimming in a river you know is full of shit?

That’s why we have swimming pools….

  16. Did everyone just…forget? About the huge sewage issue? I still won’t take the kids to the beach!

  17. This is why I’m not going in holiday in the UK. More people will think the same and it will affect local economies. I know this was the tories fault but why hasn’t Labour changed it? They did a half hearted gesture of fining the companies but nothing concrete. So disappointed.

  18. I live on the waterways.

We have always been told that we must mention if we have taken a tumble into the water if/when we see the GP – that’s been going back years too, so goes to show how long this issue has been going on and clearly that things are escalating.

  19. Class action lawsuit against the polluters and government for allowing/enabling it?

  20. Don’t worry,our fearless leaders have a plan…
     Ban swimming!
