Prince Louis could be set to inherit Prince Andrew’s ‘Duke of York’ title once Prince William becomes monarch, it has previously been reported. The Dukedom title was gifted to the late Queen Elizabeth II‘s second-born son when he married Sarah Ferguson back in 1986.
The title was also previously held by the late Queen’s father, King George VI and her grandfather, King George V. The York title is typically held by the monarch’s second-born son – and can be only taken on by a male within the Royal Family.
Since Andrew and Sarah have two daughters, the title will revert back to the Crown once the 65-year-old dies.

The Dukedom title willl then be available, with Louis – who is celebrating his seventh birthday today – the likely reciprocant of the title.
Louis’s father Prince William and uncle Prince Harry both received Dukedoms on their wedding days in 2011 and 2018.
William – who is next in line to the throne – was previously, prior to taking on the title of Prince of Wales in 2022, known as Duke of Cambridge.
Harry, despite no longer being a working member of the Royal Family, has been known as the Duke of Sussex since marrying Meghan Markle in May 2018. Since their wedding day, Meghan has been known as the Duchess of Sussex.
Although Louis’ older brother, Prince George – who will turn 12 in July – is set to become King one day, the Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly “acutely aware” of the challenges that their two youngest children – including nine-year-old Princess Charlotte – could face.
The couple are said to be working hard to “make them feel every bit as special, loved and valued as George”.
Previously speaking about the couple’s parenting of their children, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror: “Catherine probably lets Louis run wild more than she did with George. She and William are very experienced parents and I’m sure they love all three kids equally—but probably in different ways. George because he’s the first-born and has a destiny to fulfil, Charlotte because she’s the only girl, and Louis because he’s the youngest.”
