Good, hopefully it breaks the cycle of being a criminal shitbag before it gets going and they get the opportunity to live productive and happy lives.
So, let me get this straight, under these plans a 16 year old can break into pensioners home, kill them both in the most brutal and violent way possible, steal their car and all their money, blow it on drugs and joy ride around town completely off his tits and the punishment is extra hugs from strangers.
This is so out of touch it’s unreal. The example I’ve given above is about as extreme as I could think of but even for petty crime, the threat of being banged up is a strong deterrent. Take that away and you’ll have a load of kids suddenly empowered to steal and destroy and vandalise.
Can’t wait for all those people who think prisons actually work, you know those places where people down on their luck after making bad choices meet even worse people and normalise their behaviour by being long term peers with awful people leading to even more bad choices, I mean if prisons worked so well the USA would have the lowest crime rate.
Or you know… focus on rehabilitation of crimnals and mental health, for those unable to be integrated back into society, which should be very few, we keep them in prison like locations but don’t give them reasons to resent society for their treatment.
I don’t call it “repaying their debt” it’s punishment, most of the little gits deserve it. We have gone soft, too soft just in case we hurt the darling thugs feelings. My 14yo quiet granddaughter, was beaten up in school by a boy, dragged around by her hair, kicked, thumped. The boy got 1 months detention, did 2 days, no-one checked on him or stopped him. Came out from detention and threatened her again. That isn’t punishment, it’s a joke. He has a record a mile long, not been stopped yet. Me, disabled, offered to “speak” to him, he refused.
