Britain’s top military wargamers replicated Russia’s attacks on Ukraine on the first night of the [2022 invasion](https://inews.co.uk/topic/russia-ukraine-war?srsltid=AfmBOoptYDscchyJ6g9GHAPjI2YaN4qs1W95n-e2r3aUXxRB8oJ05r-b&ico=in-line_link) and the outcome was “not a pretty picture”.
Air Commodore Blythe Crawford, who until last week headed up the UK’s Air and Space Warfare Centre, warned that the UK must prepare for attacks on home soil.
“For the UK, we have stood for years at the western edge of Europe feeling as though the rest of the continent stood between us and the enemy,” he said during a speech at the Royal United Services Institute think-tank in London on Thursday.
“We in the UK over the last few decades have become focused on being garrison safe and making assumptions that we are safe to operate from the home base because most of the wars we’ve been fighting have been overseas.
“We need to reverse that thinking and assume that from here on, we’re under threat in the home base now as well.”
Turns out it wouldn’t be nice if Russia fired missiles at us.
Brilliant. Thanks i Paper. Glad somebody could wargame that to make sure.
Were they not deterred by our nuclear deterrant?
It feels like someone behind-the-scenes is angling for a conflict in the next decade or so.
The amount of articles we are being bombarded with about conscription and defence, there’s an agenda at play here.
Of course it would provide a nice distraction to a struggling populace and a unifying force for our fractured communities.
Personally, if it were to happen, I’m only considering signing up after I see clear evidence of the elites and their children getting blown up in the trenches (Kier, Boris .et al).
No normal person should agree to fight a war on the behalf of our masters again.
Our ‘ruling elite’ would love a war right now, it’s a time honoured distraction when the lower orders are showing signs of discontent and potential disobedience. They may just have severely miscalculated this time round though. Looking back and seeing the utter contempt our forefathers have been treated with after the sacrifices of two world wars I can’t see anyone today wanting to fight for Starmer or Charlie boy.
Erm, i mean missile strikes usually aren’t pretty…

Should just have watched Threads… or war ganes.. or The Postman
Would have seriously improved the place if they simulated it hitting Birmingham
Yawn. Ruzzia’s got nothing. All bark and no bite, so to speak. They’ve been making vague empty threats for decades.
Frankly, at this stage I’d welcome it. Come and have a go. Give us an excuse to send you back to the stone age.
What, as opposed to all those hugely attractive missile strikes on the UK?
Is this the 1960’s?
Wow, better help Ukraine win against Russia’s hostile invasion then, get that wrapped up!
I can’t be the only one who’s shocked when a large attack on a major city like Kiev only kills a relatively small number of people.
Hogwash.
Do t we only have 4 fighters to cover the whole of the uk or something? Think I saw it on a mark felton video.
Surely we need to invest in some of those 20 mm gattling cannons they have on warships
Good marketing for when you want to convince the public to accept more military spend in the Nuclear Age, though.
That’s the point of exercises like this – you are asking, ‘What is the worst that could happen?’ And then making plans around it.
I mean is any missile strike pretty?
Fear mongering
Ah fuck it. We’ve all got to die sometimes. May as well get a nice tan out of it.
It wouldn’t be pretty on either side I imagine.
Unlike Ukraine we’re a NATO member, directly attacking the UK could kick off world war 3.
War, not, good
Okay, next pearl of wisdom please?
wtf is ipaper and inews, unless Apple have started doing news that isn’t just Apple News people need to come up with some more original names for things.
Even Apple didn’t call their news inews, which they would have every right to do.
🤦🏻♂️
