SpaceX launches have become routine on the Space Coast. The company set a new record with 93 launches last year and is aiming for even more in 2025.

“It’ll be somewhat of a big increase, from 90 missions this past year to maybe 130 or so,” said Ken Kremer, a research chemist.

Kremer said that while the increase in launches likely won’t affect day-to-day life, it will have implications for air and sea traffic.

“Where it will have an impact is in the airspace and the marine space, especially the airplanes coming in to land in Orlando and Melbourne,” he said. “They’re going to have to coordinate — SpaceX and the airline companies — to free up that airspace. We don’t want to have an accident like we did in D.C. with the aircraft and a helicopter.”

Documents from the Federal Aviation Administration show that SpaceX is also proposing the construction and operation of a new landing zone, which would bring the number of landing pads to three, up from the current two.

Kremer said he does not believe the additional launches will have a significant environmental impact. However, he noted that Elon Musk’s Starship rocket is a different story and will require further examination.
