Three films in coproduction with Luxembourg will compete in the international animation film festival in Annecy, France from 9 until 15 June 2025.
Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol by Sylvain Chomet, produced by Luxembourg Bidibul Productions, France and Belgium, explores French novelist and playwright Marcel Pagnol’s life. The film’s 2D animation, setting and layout were directed by Luxembourg Doghouse Studio. Post-production sound was handled by Bettembourg studios Philophon.
Allah n’est pas obligé by Zaven Najjar has been adapted from Ahmadou Kourouma’s novel and coproduced between Luxembourg, France, Belgium and Canada. Paul Thiltges Distributions handled some layout, compositing, animation and special effects created at the Fabrique d’Images (Photo Factory) in Differdange. Philophon handled post-production sound.
The final candidate, A Walk into the Afterlife, was produced by Luxembourg University alumni Jiyun Jeong. Supported by the Film Fund of Luxembourg in the “Carte Blanche” programme, the film marks the Luxembourg 3D animator’s international debut.
Three other films coproduced in Luxembourg will be screened in the Annecy Présente (Annecy Presents) section, open since 2024 to the entire world.
Spiked by Caroline Origer was coproduced with Luxembourg Fabrique d’Images, Belgium, France and the UK. Stitch Head by Steve Hudson was also coproduced by Fabrique d’Images and Germany, while Thelma’s Perfect Birthday by Reinis Kalnaellis was coproduced by Luxembourg Paul Thiltges Distributions and Latvia.
