All the foxes want is food. Many will tolerate a degree of human contact in exchange for some juicy morsels of fried chicken. But eventually some foxes will figure that aggression results in the whole box of chicken being dropped for them (and the human going away completely).
In Nara, Japan, a similar thing occurred; there’s a temple park where a lot of wild deer congregate and decades ago some of the deer realized that being tame and accommodating towards people resulted in them getting fed treats. And before long, these deer became a profitable tourist attraction, with the locals selling food to tourists to feed the increasing numbers of surprisingy tame deer. But in more recent year, there’s been growing incidents of the deer acting aggressively towards tourists, butting and pronging people with their horns to make them drop all of their food (“Why be nice for a few morsels when you can be nasty for the whole bag?”).
In America too, in the 1970s there used to be a big problem with bears becoming too tame in National Parks because campers kept on feeding them treats or leaving scraps behind for them to scavenge. And when they became too tame & forthcoming around people, this rarely ended well for the bears.
Always maintain a respectful distance from wild animals, no matter how tame they appear you need to remember they’re not domesticated. We don’t fully understand their languages and it’s not good to encourage too much contact because when wild animals become too used to human company it rarely ends well for either.
I always dreamt of petting a fox…but I am sane and respectful enough to keep my distance.
I swear some of them have rabies

Either that thing is part pelican, or that fella looks even more like ham to fox eyes than he does to human ones.
Years of reading comics tell me that he’ll wake up tomorrow as Foxman!
